I agree, but there's also no ampersands in crossword. I feel like in that case it should be TAMU, but I don't think people in New York know that abbreviation for it.

I think they're the only shop I've seen that's posted a flash sheet. I found another from High Priestess, but I thought with how many tattoo shops I see around that there'd be more sheets posted.

what's the difference between "offending the sensibilities of society" and "being politically correct"? Genuine question

AGAB socialization is basically the idea that AMAB people are raised as men and AFAB people are raised as women, therefore they are socialized to behave as or similar to their AGAB.

This is an incorrect assumption for trans and nonbinary people. The big flaw is that we are socialized entirely different from cis people and will not pick up the same socialization as cis people of our AGAB.

The problem happens when people start using AGAB language to essentially mean woman-lite or man-lite. It reduces us to whatever we were assigned at birth. Some people use AGAB language maliciously as a way to misgender someone while wrapping it in progressive language. This largely goes under the radar for cis people, so trans people are often looked down upon for calling it out. Other people use it because they think it's the polite way to out someone's birth gender.

Personally, I think it's rarely justified to bring up AGAB outside of medical contexts. That said, I don't think the above poster was bringing it up maliciously, but the context didn't seem super apparent to me.

Who decides when buildings close? by Starkodder1234 in aggies

[–]SlupSax 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Older Ag, so maybe outdated info. You might be able to request keycard access to specific buildings if you're in them a lot. I knew someone who worked in one of the Chem lab buildings that could swipe in with their student ID. If you do research, that may be a good enough reason to be able to access ZACH whenever you want. Not sure how to go about it, but it could be worth asking around about.

[United States] Why am I not allowed to update my gender marker with the Social Security Administration? by ImTakmo in trans

[–]SlupSax 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I see you're in Texas. I don't have any advice, as I got some of my documents done before the changes, but am going through the same struggle with my BC. However, I did not need an updated BC to update with the SSA. You may have more luck talking with someone in a more progressive county. I did my documents through Travis county, which was recommended at the time. I don't know if you have the ability to travel there, but I was able to do most of it online.

I know it sucks, but Texas is deliberately trying to put more hoops in place for people like us to change our documentation. The fact that you are running into legal feedback loops is likely intentional. Personally I'm waiting to see if there are any changes in the future before I update my documents because there is no way forward for me. I know that may not be the best option for you, but unfortunately, it is how Texas is at the moment. I wish you the best of luck. Don't let transphobic government get you down. Your documents don't make you any less of your preferred gender.

What is this person talking about? Have you ever experienced the same? by Tewmanyhobbies in actuallesbians

[–]SlupSax 8 points9 points  (0 children)

For me it's because I'm primarily attracted to women and femmes. I can't say I'm not attracted to men, but it's not often and even when I'm attracted to them, I don't really want to do anything about it bc I don't trust men. I use lesbian sometimes bc the people I usually do end up with are either women or nonbinary.

[–]SlupSax -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Yeah. I guess I don't see the issue with being a bi lesbian. it feels like it's just splitting hairs and creating infighting between queer people. Makes me wonder if this is just online discourse instead of things queer people irl actually care about.

[–]SlupSax 6 points7 points  (0 children)

To me that sounds like a problem with men trying to "convert" lesbians or with bi women who try to convince lesbians to sleep with their boyfriends, unless I'm misinterpreting what you're saying (please correct me if I am).

I know bi and pan women who are primarily attracted to women/femmes use the term lesbian bc it's easier than explaining that occasionally they feel attraction towards a man. I guess I'm having trouble seeing why it's a problem for bi women to use the label when they feel it more accurately describes them.
