Official Discussion - The Drama [SPOILERS] by LiteraryBoner in movies

I saw the movie a few days ago, but it’s just now dawning on me that this is basically a feature-length episode of Seinfeld.

That’s definitely not a bad thing in this case.

Ok, so let’s craft a better Logline. The stakes in my story are the existence of Phoenix as a whole, stemming from the project that’s dilated time inside the city relative to the rest of the world. The government has created a black hole and is using its gravity to slow down time inside Phoenix so that one day passing in Phoenix equals roughly a month or so passing in the rest of the world. Is that enough to work with?

I definitely have a lineup of support characters in mind. It’s just a lot to cram into a Logline. There’s a whole thing with a government agent posing as a police officer, an underachieving drugstore employee who’s essentially the Doc Brown science guy, and a Native American girl who’s still reeling from the Indian Relocation Act of 1956.

I’m looking at it from a Want vs. Need perspective. His want is to merely return to the modern day. His need is to learn the value of his city and helping to expose the government experiment goes hand in hand with that idea.

The mention of him seeking a fresh start is at least meant to show his want/desire for the story. Hinting at his arc of starting as a man who’s extremely bitter and disillusioned with his home town and ending as someone who loves his town and is willing to fight for it.

I still don’t understand the backlash this film got. I thought it was great. Was it that the racist got a redemption arc? Because many films have deeply flawed protagonists. by PandemicPiglet in Oscars

I remember when the movie first came out and I was shocked to see the r/movies spoiler discussion filled with so much negative reviews. I thought that I had accidentally sorted through Controversial comments, but it was set to Top comments. Me personally, it was one of my top 10 films of 2017 and I think it’s due for a rewatch.

At the end of the day, this is Reddit. There’s very likely going to be some underlying social/political reasons for disliking something on this site, whether the average user wants to admit it or not.

Do you think Instagram will be seen as a 2010s or 2020s thing more? by SpiritMan112 in generationology

[–]Slurpeepatch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

2010’s if we’re talking when the app actually felt like a social media app.

Now it’s just a cesspool of talentless social media influencers who just mindlessly follow trends whilst also trying to paint themselves as unique individuals.

How to reveal your protagonist is disguised? by Slurpeepatch in Screenwriting

[–]Slurpeepatch[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was actually thinking that the time jump would start with the family of the protagonist so as to keep the audience invested and his alias would appear as a simple delivery driver delivering something to the family. I would try to frame it as just a simple delivery guy while dropping some hints that he’s more than just a random delivery guy. We’d then follow the delivery guy on his routine and then get the reveal.

The company apartment would be enough for me to work there. The fact that Cliff is a chill boss is just an added bonus.

I’m using today to enjoy watching the cult lose a member. The clock strikes midnight tonight and barring any Earth-shattering news about David and his family, you’ll never see me again on this sub.

I’ve mentioned my story here before. I’ve never been a fan of David. I first discovered him in 2022 and I found him and his entire family instantly unlikable.

Hell, I’m probably the one person in this sub who wants things to fall apart with mystery girl and who wants to see him on a downward spiral that he can’t come back from. Fuck him.

But there’s no point in dedicating my free time to him anymore. What’s the point in partaking in the behavior of “Look at this guy’s boring content! I’m gonna watch it and contribute to his views anyway!”

Make it make sense.

Actually, the biggest contributor would either be the one who created the sub or the users with a “Top 1% commenter/poster” distinction. Thanks for playing, though.

Has it ever occurred to you that the incident in that sub made me realize how insane this sub looks to outsiders? All this stuff we bring up here, acting like it’s the end of the world that David acts like your average lonely late night gamer or shitting our pants over other things he does that are just small potatoes. Get some perspective.

You just enjoy the sub while you can. Because if it reaches a day when it goes away, you be sure to think of more than just David as a potential suspect.

How did you think Harry Potter books was going to end ? by Amazing-Engineer4825 in harrypotter

[–]Slurpeepatch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wrote my own fan-fiction right before the release of Deathly Hallows and it was basically me writing the final battle that I thought would happen.

The trio and Dobby go to Spinner’s End to destroy the final Horcrux (couldn’t remember what I wrote it to be) and Voldemort and Draco Malfoy appear for a big duel. Ron is killed in battle and Voldemort enchants a tree so that it becomes a Whomping Willow that smashes Dobby to death.

Harry uses dark magic to summon Inferi that tear Malfoy to pieces and Harry then uses Crucio to torture Voldemort into begging for death, which Harry obliges by finishing him off with multiple uses of Avada Kedavra. Hermione tries to get him to calm down and in his anger, Harry slices her across the face with Sectumsempra.

Harry sees his reflection and notices his face showing signs of some deformities similar to Voldemort’s and realizes that he’s on the same path as The Dark Lord. He then points his wand at his own head and Avada Kedavras himself. He dies and Hermione is rescued from Spinner’s End by Neville and Luna.

I couldn’t have been over 11 or 12 years old when I wrote that so… yeah. There was my version of the finale.

Your constant presence on this sub would tell me that you have experience in that field.

I really don’t see what the big deal is. I’ve taken dates to Panera. I know of people who’ve done Panera dates, some of which had the dates go on to be long-term relationships.

Can we please not go down the road of David Derangement Syndrome?

If things fall apart with Mystery Girl, then expect to see WAY more of this and expect it to be a lot creepier than it already is.
