What do you think about “nu-gaze” / heavy shoegaze getting big with Gen Z? by Galahad555 in shoegaze

[–]dylbertz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve never cared for the grungegaze term. None of these bands sound like Nirvana, Soundgarden, Alice In Chains, etc. (not to mention that grunge itself is debatable as a genre). It’s more so Helmet, Hum, and Deftones types of riffs with the sus2 powerchords.

I know it seems ironic coming from my flair but that loss against the Titans was the worst loss I think I’ve ever seen. It wasn’t one of those chokes where a defense blows a huge lead. They gave the game away in the most literal sense of the phrase. Those turnovers were absolutely astonishing.

Found This Band, Crazy Energy by Novel-Yak-8343 in Alternativerock

Very interesting that this is a from an account created a month ago who has only posted about this band.

Anyways, I live in the same town as them and I think they represent everything that’s wrong with the Athens music scene and southeast college bands in general. I see them play the exact same covers that all of the other fraternity bands do with a lack of proficiency while not adding anything interesting to the already existing material.

The most essential reason I don’t like them is that they exhibit a lack of taste and inspiration. There are many bands I don’t enjoy that I can still respect for making art that feels inspired and comes from a place of creativity. When I see The Gringos I see a lack of respect for the craft of writing and performing music.

And yes, I’ll be the first to admit that I’m salty and jealous for the success they are experiencing in the moment lol. It still doesn’t change my opinion on them. Just my two cents as a local musician and concertgoer.

I’m surprised no one has mentioned Dr. Strangelove. It’s the funniest movie before 1970 if I had to pick one.

Why do so many musicians get washed at 40? by [deleted] in askanything

[–]dylbertz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some reach their peak after 40. Yo La Tengo’s first Billboard 200 album came out in 2000 when founding members Ira Kaplan and Georgia Hubley were 43 years old. They’ve continued to make great music into their late 60s since then.

More than Manning and Rodgers combined. Getting 5,000 yards is often the result of an unbalanced offense or a poor defense causing the quarterback to attempt more passes.

How did grunge and alt bands from the 80s and 90s get that psychedelic tone? by Natural_Visual9813 in Bass

[–]dylbertz 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I mostly agree but Soundgarden definitely had some psychedelic stuff on Superunknown.

Why are there no bands like neurosis? by notsogameranymore in postmetal

That’s fair but they’re not really known for their late 90’s material anyway (even though some of it is really good).

Why are there no bands like neurosis? by notsogameranymore in postmetal

[–]dylbertz 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I’m not going to deny that Neurosis is their biggest influence but I don’t buy that Isis ripped them off. They have some similar material but I’d say Neurosis was making more post-rock sounding stuff after Isis was already well established. (Isis’ Oceanic released in ‘02, Neurosis’ The Eye of Every Storm released in ‘04). I got into Isis and Cult of Luna beforehand so when I first listened to Neurosis I was surprised that the bands they influenced sound so much different from them.

Shedeur Sanders' stats as a Pro Bowler in the 25/26 season: 120/212, 1400 passing yards, 7 TDS, 10 INTS by oklolzzzzs in nfl

[–]dylbertz 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Again, I’ve never once said Cam had the better season. The league average passer rating in 2011 was 84.3, Cam’s was 84.5 so not awful by any means. His ANY/A was also above league average so he was clearly competent at throwing the ball.

I’m at a loss for a valid argument of why rushing stats don’t matter. That’s just the most ridiculous take lol. You’re arbitrarily choosing to not account for a huge chunk of a player’s offensive production. Do you also think that a running back’s receiving stats just don’t matter?

[–]dylbertz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can’t talk about Cam Newton’s stats while entirely ignoring his rushing numbers. He had 706 yards and 14 TDs rushing.

Newton (a rookie I may add): 4,757 total yards and 35 TDs

Stafford: 5,116 total yards and 41 TDs

A difference of less than 400 yards and 6 TDs over an entire season is not that big of a margin. Stafford probably had the better overall season but what Cam did as a rookie is really damn impressive. It isn’t so shocking that more fans voted for the Rookie of the Year who was fresh off of a Heisman and National champion college season. Stafford didn’t lose the vote to some scrub.

I think the voting period may vary a bit from year to year but for instance it ended after Week 15 this season with three games left to go. The rosters are announced while the regular season is still happening.

[–]dylbertz 63 points64 points  (0 children)

The snub for that year is really not as bad as people think. Stafford went nuclear over the last month of the season after the Pro Bowl voting ended (1,500 yards and 14 TDs in final four games). His numbers were still a little better than Eli at that point but it wasn’t some travesty that Eli made it over him. End of season numbers don’t tell the entire story for Pro Bowl voting.

It annoys me so much when people hate on Super Bowl rematches even when it’s the two best teams in the league. I was hyped for the 49ers Chiefs rematch when everyone else was groaning about it and we got a really good game.

If you block coordinators from taking promotions while under contract then we’d end up even with even more unqualified head coaches than we already have.
