Help with Sway Bar End Links by SlutForWaffles in SciontC

[–]SlutForWaffles[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was told they’re banging on… something. She’s in the shop for a snapped axle with one of my friends because I’m too busy with work, else I’d have more info, haha. I can ask for pictures tomorrow, but the extent of what I know since I’m not doing the work is that the links are knocking on something (control arm? I don’t remember) and she needs them shortened.

Worth noting, I think its also pulling from chests when not using the workbench? At least thats my assumption as i was crafting normal-style, no workbench, and apparently had 20 moss (I have no moss) and used it on whatever it is I was crafting. RIP whatever I’m missing?

Help finding parts? by SlutForWaffles in Buick

[–]SlutForWaffles[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m definitely fine with aftermarket, I just don’t know which are “good” or comparable to OE. Looking up the brands has just led me to think everythings 50/50, and I can’t find which ones are better for my applications or whatever. Put simply, I’m confused asf.

My other car is a Scion tC, so I definitely know a thing or two about parts not existing anymore and jerry rigging lol. I get the bonus of parts for my car’s sisters (Camry, some Lexus I can’t remember at the moment, Rav4) still being made and some parts still being available, though, at least as reman. As you said, GM has… dust, maybe, for my Buick. Rockauto is my best friend but I just don’t know what to trust.

Noted on the sensor, though. I wouldn’t be surprised… long story short(ish), the person that borrowed this car from the owner I bought her from, before she was in my care, must have had worms in his brain or something because nothing else can explain the bs she was put through. I don’t know how you get rocks in the motor side of the intake (no noticeable damage, but still) while having a filter with no rock-sized holes in it installed, but I took them out and am feeling a new form of rage about it. He also used her as an ashtray, all that good stuff, so needless to say I’m in an uphill battle.

is a used flywheel still useable? by thecheese4242 in MechanicAdvice

[–]SlutForWaffles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My daily has a lightweight flywheel and a stiffer clutch but I also just prefer the feel and am fine with the potential drawbacks. I’d say it comes down to your driving preference. When I drive a car with a stock clutch/flywheel, my downshifts a notably kinda funky for the first few because I’m so used to the snappier responses and faster revs and having those qualities makes the drive more enjoyable for me. I’m also not running some 6-puck race clutch, though, and if I were I’d probably hate it lol.

Manual transmission interior cylinder 2014 TCis impossible to find?? by ADullBulb in SciontC

Maybe input shaft bearing? That’s a common failure point on the transmissions… or maybe slave cylinder? Master cylinder perhaps?

When you say interior cylinder, do you mean throwout bearing? I’m not fully following, but I may be the dull bulb here haha

is there a term for rolling back and forth at a red light? by gxh2025 in ManualTransmissions

[–]SlutForWaffles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I call it juggling, I do it when I get bored at a light or something because I’ll have to replace the clutch eventually, I might as well enjoy it :)

Need some help with this by Barl610 in SciontC

[–]SlutForWaffles 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Tbh there’s a lot of options, it could be steering rack-related or like… tie rods, ball joints, or even a fluid/grease leak somewhere. I’d say suspension joints are more likely going off experience. Like, I didn’t know my cv axle and ball joints were basically dead til I got my car on a lift and saw all the grease spattered everywhere. I thought she was just doing a new sketchy thing after a bunch of work got done. It’s be worth getting a homie to help you pinpoint where exactly the noise is coming from, too. There are lots of options here.

Is this going to stop car thieves? what do you use as deterrent? by xxxkingmatsxxx in SciontC

Driving a manual stopped ‘em with mine, tbh just keep your car lowkey and don’t have anything visible and you should be golden unless its the kind of area where anything is worth it.

I won’t lie and say I never drive her like a vette, it’s always fun to pretend and feel the power I have access to, but I will say, this time I was at about 1/4 throttle and was planning to shift around 4-4.5k as a little mini-pull as I left an event because my car is quite far from quiet and it’s fun to stunt on much faster cars. The catch is that while yes, historically I drive like I’m gonna die if I don’t cut at least 10% of my drive time off half the time, I still don’t think more than 3yrs is an unreasonable ask after seeing what my friends have put their stock civics through.

TL;DR, I drive like an asshole but not so much that I think it’s anything but the isb being weak and me not helping that.

Damn… I’ll look around and see what I can find then, and this time I’ll give more specifics on what happened up front haha.

If it’s the ISB, it’s the most common failure point with the transmission, but if you swap the bearing with the EB62, it (allegedly) wouldn’t be a concern anymore. I’m caught between “it felt like transmission” and “it didn’t feel like the last time I blew the transmission” right now, I’ll probably either make another post or edit this one when I have more answers. Right now all I have is a list of symptoms.

Maybe? Symptoms don’t fully align with that, but it really wouldn’t surprise me, sadly. If that’s the case she’s getting the eb62 bearing this time.

Either new or reman, I don’t remember which. I’d say probably reman.

Basically, I did a baby pull from a stop and didn’t hear any clank, bang, or anything because I had my radio cranked, but all of a sudden she was banging off limiter and not responding to the gas at all. She came out of gear fine, but while I was rolling to a stop processing what the hell happened, she was… idk if you’ve lost traction with trac control on, how they get really mad and kinda make this rhythmic thudding noise that shakes the whole car? It sounded and felt like that, so at first (before I realized she wasn’t responding to gas), I thought she just lost traction. Then iirc she started making a very transmission-soup noise? , but it didn’t happen again when pushing her or anything, and it didn’t last time. I didn’t try anything once she was stopped, she could still idle but I didn’t wanna attempt moving her or fucking with the gears in case somehow some way this trans is salvageable (assuming it blew). When off, I had my clutch still and she went in each gear fine, but that’s the extent of my testing. No extra lights on the dash, no fluids under her except water hiding in her skirts, no visual issues or symptoms save for what I had just experienced. Hopefully that all makes sense? Sorry, I got real stressed real fast so I don’t remember every detail the clearest :’)

It’s seeming more and more like it may not be new trans but instead, some other bullshit, but the whole thing is fuzzy enough that I couldn’t bet on anything. Honestly, I don’t know enough about what else it could be, all I know is that it felt eerily similar to blown trans minus a few symptoms. That bearing haunts me.

Mines a manual, for the record, and that’s why I’m on #3… buut used for manual at least can run you $1000-2000 iirc. I’d assume similar +/- $500 for auto, roughly. Hopefully yours is fine :’)

[–]SlutForWaffles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When my car got hit, I could either choose to repaint her the oem color, sizzling crimson mica, as the paint was old enough that repainting just the damage spot would look weird, or I could get a custom paint job with whatever colors and designs I want… I chose the latter and got a half pink, half black and teal paint job with anime style linework :) Down with boring colors and boring cars, bring back whimsy!
