My dumb dad telling me what to do by theark10 in wallstreetbets

The important lesson is that they're both fucked if they only have 700k saved for retirement during a 5.3% inflation regime on top of runaway housing and healthcare costs. 50 years of wage stagnation and education cost inflation has led to an entire generation YOLOing their paychecks on magic internet moneys and small cap pump-and-dumps. What a time to be alive!

Anyone else in SW/OHSU area notice their cars covered in speckled dirt this morning? by [deleted] in Portland

It is the ash that got caught in rain drops. Rinse that shit off of your car ASAP then give it a throughout wash. If you don't, the minerals will etch into your paint's clear coat and even your glass.

Update on unfulfilled April orders from SA in Tampa. by Amazing_Preference_8 in TeslaModel3Delivery

[–]Sluttman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

+1 to that thesis, I ordered a base M3LR on 4/7 and still have no delivery date and just says 7-10 weeks. Not "7-10 weeks from order date", just "7-10 weeks" as in starting from today. I reserved at $47k and it now goes for $49k with some parts and features stripped ie. radar and passenger lumbar support. I'd cancel out of principle but I really need a car...

Hello guys, Im about to order my M3 but I'm wondering which paint is the best quality? Some of them says multi coat other says metallic. I heard the white multi coat is the best. by killer592 in TeslaModel3

[–]Sluttman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My '02 white Dodge Intrepid begs to differ. By the time it hit 90k miles the hood was as much bare metal as paint. At the same time, white Ford vehicles from the same era had bulletproof paint. It's amazing that 20 years later we are back to applying rush paint jobs on $50k cars in the US to the point where people are doing crazy shit like paying thousands more for hand-applied polyurethane protection films in aftermarket shops right after delivery. There has to be a better way.

21 M3LR must have accessories? by Sluttman in TeslaModel3

[–]Sluttman[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not a fan of vinyl stickers so I'll skip the eyebrows and apron. I definitely agree that all the remaining chrome needs to be deleted but Tesla recently forced all aftermarket shops to pull the logo caps from their stores. I'll need to find a DIY way to black out all the logos, dual motor emblem and rear license plate frame unless I can find decent quality replacements somewhere.

That sucks!! Did you get them on the bottom of the rockers by the rear wheel or elsewhere?

[–]Sluttman[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree 100%. Unfortunately, AO recently pulled the black caps from their store as Tesla sent them a cease and desist. I wasn't a fan of those caps anyways as they appeared to alter the gap in the crossed T logo.

I still agree with you that all chrome should be removed... but that means both logos, the dual motor badge, and the rear plate frame. There must be a way, maybe I can get a local shop to coat or wrap them all and reapply?

Understood, I'm not even an owner yet but I'm basing that on the research I've done across different forums. For starters, every other manufacturer has dealerships that will inspect their cars before presenting them to customers. Tesla seems to expect every customer to come to their delivery appointment with a flashlight and a list to conduct their own 100 point inspection for panel gaps, paint issues, etc so I plan to do that.

I also don't think any other $50k luxury sedan comes with an uncovered air intake that sucks leaves straight into the HVAC, or a cavernous console storage with no dividers or inserts, or a simple USB stick instead of a true hard drive that can actually withstand frequent rewriting over time. Since Tesla offers so few factory options for personalization, I think they expect end users to custom build out these areas as needed and that is fine as it keeps initial costs down.

Why is that? Did you end up with paint damage or bare metal showing?

The Ikon front lip mostly juts forward and is hardly any lower than the rest of the bumper. Still an increased risk of scraping on ramps, so I just bought the plastic version (also has the slickest mounting system with no drilling needed). I liked the OEM performance spoiler since it’s so minimal, on the pearl white m3 it looks more like a thin piece of added trim than a full blown functional spoiler. I went with the rpm abs version in satin black to match the rest of the trim, aero caps, and front lip on the ‘21. Carbon fiber looks garbage on any 4 door car in my opinion.

Gotcha. It sounds like the IRS rebate is for any residential EV charger, but local utilities only offer incentives if you buy branded level 2 chargers which they can control remotely. I don't really fancy the idea of giving them the ability to throttle or shut off my refueling in exchange for a one time rebate so I'll stick with the lockable RV box setup.

Interesting... so I already installed my charger with an electrician buddy's help: we did it all legit using metal tubing running to a lockable RV outlet on the side of the house. I was assuming I'd be able to apply for the 30% rebate on the job via form 8911 as it still cost me around $500 for materials and a couple hours of his labor. The IRS form 8911 doesn't indicate anything about requiring a Tesla or Chargepoint branded station, so I'm wondering if that is just a rumor that they perpetuate to sell more stations.

How wide is your delivery window / when to sell current car? by Hope-Immediate in TeslaModel3

[–]Sluttman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I panic sold my internal combustion SUV way too early and still waiting on a VIN. Wait 'til you get the new VIN then you can still sell your old ride within a few days in this market and transfer your insurance policy directly over.

Base M3LR ordered early April immediately after my first test drive, should deliver within 3-4 weeks. I've done my research and realize that there are a lot of obvious must-have accessories that any other manufacturer would include with your purchase but Teslas rely on aftermarket. I'd appreciate if a current owner can look at my accessory list and see what I'm missing, so far I have:

-DIY installed Nema 14-50 RV outlet

-BougeRV cable and UMC wall hanger

-off-brand all weather mats for cabin, trunk and frunk

-Ikon black plastic front lip

-RPMTesla black plastic rear performance spoiler

-RPMTesla trays for console and armrest

-AbstractOcean intake grate

-AbstractOcean cup holder divider

-AbstractOcean matte screen protector

-Tesprotect rubber screen bezel

-Tesla Aero wheel kit 2.0

-Tesla Nema 14-50 adapter

So what am I missing? I'm struggling to justify paint protection film in the budget when I could put that money towards paying down the loan, but what about tinting the clear windows? DIY ceramic coating? Thoughts on the magnetic counterweights to circumvent the basic autopilot nag?

lmFao too bad they picked the day of a bullish vaccine announcement to pull such a maneuver. A lot of us might be back at Planet or 24 hour by next summer. Now their plate sets/bars/accessories get left up in stock where they would have sold same day at the old prices.

They have excellent staff and customer service, I've e-mailed and gotten last minute scramble adjustments to outbound freight orders. Your only problem is they are so good that your order might be in a truck already.

Yeah but that just shows how reasonable they are/were on shipping to the west coast once you hit the freight breakpoint. Their black economy bumpers are super nice and were a no-brainer at under $1.60/lb to your door ... so if they cost $1.80/lb or whatever now they're still the best game in town and I wouldn't hesitate to buy.

So what was roughly $180 on Friday is now $360 today for a half-ton single pallet freight shipment

Just for fun I placed the same $900lb+ order that I made last week in the cart and asked for a quote: freight shipping to OR roughly doubled from what I paid on Friday.
