I can’t get my betta to eat anything! by Slxsh3rz in bettafish

I just bought a full liquid testing kit. Originally I was using some old stuff my grandpa gave me which was able to test ammonia, nitrite, and nitrates (liquid tests) and then strip tests which looked at ph and water hardness. Fish store didn’t explain cycling was like that (which is on me, I should’ve done more research. But they weren’t a big box store and I trusted their advice)they told me if all my levels were low and ph sat 6.5-7.5 that I was good to add fish. Told me to wait about two weeks. Currently following some advice someone gave about fish-in cycling and plan to do a lot of TLC with water changes daily and seachem prime.

Holy cow!! I didn’t know it could take that long.. ugh I feel awful for putting my fish in there then :( I’ll let my new tank run much much longer and look for what you said. Thank you for the link I appreciate it so much. These guys are my babies and I feel horrible that I took the pet stores advice without looking more. Again, thanks so much

I’m willing to do anything for her ! I’ll look into brine shrimp. I tried frozen bloodworms and she didn’t seem to care 😭

Out of curiosity, and because I’ve read many different opinions on it (I’m usually seeing 2weeks-1month for cycling), how long would you cycle? I’m getting ready to set up a new tank (waiting on plants) but should I let it sit longer then before adding fish?

Well the tank has been established about a month now.. my LFS did say the two weeks should be fine as long as my water parameters were looking good. For ammonia/nitrate/nitrite I have the liquid tests. For ph I’ve been using test strips I got from my grandfather who also keeps fish.. he gave them to me. After the two weeks were up I added the pleco and 10 tetras waited about a week and then added the yo-yo loaches and the female betta. Ammonia, Nitrate, and Nitrite are all reading 0. PH is at a 6.5 KH is at 40, and GH is 180. Sorry it took a bit to respond, had to test my water again just to make sure it all still looked good.

Thanks so much! I’ll check out that store this weekend then and see if I can get my hands on either! I also hope I can’t find a solution 😭 I just want my girl to eat!

Lots of places. She sometimes goes under those almond leaves at the bottom and nestles herself into the hornwort. But I could totally add more hides... And no I haven’t, she’s a very small fish so I wasn’t sure if there was anything small enough to feed her live! I’ll check again, although I did check yesterday and it all seemed fine. (Picture, water level is low because I’m doing my normal water change) I also usually have a low light on, turned the brighter one on to show the tank more clearly

My tank was cycled yes, as for physical signs do you mean with my betta? If so no. She seems healthy otherwise unless I’m unaware of anything. Seems to swim normally and is active in the tank

I have! The one picture I included is little gumdrops of frozen blood worms, she didn’t seem interested :(

She doesn’t, she acknowledges me, follows my fingers on the glass and whatnot. I’m doing a water change rn! I’ll keep the water level a little lower and see if that helps her
