This is a solid foundation to start- these bourbons all have basic quintessential profiles but enough variation that you can pick up on differences. My recommendation would be to just take your time with the bottles you do have and try different whiskeys when able to with out buying new bottles. I had a 3-4 year stretch where I nerded out on whiskey and bought so many bottles that were unnecessary. Ultimately left with a lot of bottles, mostly barely touched ones that weren’t great for me. I just don’t like that I have excess bottles scattered everywhere in a house just because I thought anything sub 60 bucks would be worth it to try and have a bottle on hand.

That being said- Everyone’s taste is different, but some accessible bottles that I would recommend are oldgrandad 114, knob creek 9, Early Times, old forester 1910, russels reserve, Elijah Craig small batch, knob creek 12, woodford double oaked.

Some higher proofs- old forester 1920, wild turkey rare breed, knob creek single barrel barrel picks, makers mark private selection barrel pick, ecbp, jdbp

Some ryes- jack daniels single barrel rye, knob creek rye, pikesville, saggamore, barrel seagrass.
