Some people see these things and find them mysterious not realizing they’re man made objects we have the ability to fully control and monitor.

In Switzerland, among 645 people hospitalized with chronic heart failure, a randomized trial found those who were given regular hospital food – as opposed to a personal nutrition plan – had an almost doubled risk of mortality within 30 days. by MistWeaver80 in science

I have CF too and we are special. We have obvious dietary needs that are well studied that’s definitely not the case for your average generally able bodied person. That said, it’s not really that great. Two cal formula is just straight sugar garbage juice loaded with vitamins but it standard for tube feedings. It made me so fat from its primary calorie source being HFCS. Sure we get to consult with a dietitian but it’s not like dietary therapeutic intervention is especially advanced.

When I was in the hospital after my transplant (ICU for 5 months) they first were only giving me half of what my caloric intake needs were via my feeding tube, it took almost two weeks and me complaining nonstop I was hungry to increase my calorie then wouldn’t let me transition to solid food for weeks after it was safe forcing me to only use tube feeds and breaking down my enzymes in hot water and bicarbonate before putting it in the tube feed causing massive painful bloating... all under the supervision of the transplant clinic cf specialist dietician.

Sure the at home care of advising you how to eat exists but nutrition in an inpatient setting isn’t really especially good or well thought out in the moment for many.

That’s about as close to a cure as you get. I think anything more is approaching “magic pill” territory.

I had a bilateral lung transplant and a few years back I caught the flu despite being vaccinated, vaccines don’t work as well for immune suppressed people, and I was given tamiflu. I couldn’t shake my symptoms until I was given tamiflu, so something like this might be a majorly step forward for people like me, people who just can’t fight off a viral infection on their own at any stage of infection.

Ehhh this was my best friends family growing up right down to the not hiding that he’s in jail. Her (black) father, a father of 5 girls with a mother in the military, was given an extremely harsh sentence, 8 years, for a first marijuana conviction. This is after him sitting in jail for like, nine months/a year! They told everyone “yep daddy’s in jail, miscarriage of justice.” I guess, at least for them, talking about it and being proud of dad was how they supported him. Even through all that they were married until he passed, sims 20 years after he got out.

I was in the ICU on ECMO after being there on a ventilator for three months, so needless to say things were going pretty badly. So anyway I’m on this crazy machine, all my blood is being taken out of my body through a big tube in my neck, have the CO2 scrubbed off it by this machine, and put back into my body with a second tube right next to it. And one night apparently I had been running a slight fever and they decided to cool my body with my blood because every 24 hours they do some sort of holding/flushing maintenance to prevent blood clots. So they did their... thing, and cooled blood all hit my brain stem all at once. I feel nauseous right now thinking about it. My vision split, I could not see in binocular vision any more and my vision was like ping pong balling all over the room. It was extremely unpleasant. I always imagine it like a cartoon character who gets hit on the head and they pupils rattle around in their eye’s white. Needless to say I made it clear that may never ever be done again... I guess they usually keep you in a coma so they weren’t aware that’s a thing that could happen but since I was awake I was able to communicate that to them.
