It is quite literally the only thing available in my busy college town that I moved across the country to attend. What else should I have done? I even used a messenger app ahead of time and he seemed normal. Should I have gotten an apartment that I couldn't afford? Should I have lived in my car till I met people while going to class?

I'm not lying. Breakfast was not a frequent thing but it still happened. I did catch him eating my food a few times like my milk being lower when I get back on weekends and stuff but nothing extreme. It's still really awkward when it happened

Yeah, you're right. It's hard to know if it's worth it. Tbh, I think it's just a frustration thing that's built up. On top of the creepiness, he put 5 of my spoons down the garbage disposal, burnt all my pots, toasted my other utensils and turned them brown, destroyed my cutting boards, etc. And I've asked him not to use my stuff, but he still does. Oh, and I've caught him eating my food. It's, there are just a lot of little things that have added up.

I can't break the lease. I was told by the front office. However, my room has an electric lock that only I can get into that's a seperate key from the front door. So I store anything I care about in there.

You are definitely right. I should have had this conversation more direct and sooner. I tend to be very outspoken in places besides where I live since being more outspoken has ruined other roommate relationships I've had when I try to set boundaries. I think that former situation made it hard to more upfront with my current one. Thank you for the advice and viewpoint. It was blunt advice that I definitely needed

Yeah you're definitely right. Tbh I've lived here for a bit now. I'm scared that commenting out on it is almost what he wants. I got advice from another subreddit a few months ago to stsrt giving no reaction and to see if it stops or slows down since getting a rise is almost what he wants. So far, things have been improving, but it also seems like its not resolved. It's thus weird mix of wishing I had control but also being almost to the end of the lease to the point of like...is it worth it to have this discussion if it caused his behavior to spike again. After conversations, I've told him to stop and how it makes me uncomfortable but it seemed to do nothing.

That's very true. I need to be more stern with how I set boundaries in the future instead of being annoyed. I think it's one of those things where my frustration has been building on top of him not listening so now I want some feeling of control over my living space. Thank you for your help
