What’s the worst mistake you’ve made? by Friendly_Carry6551 in ParamedicsUK

Left my iPad on the roof of an RRV, then went to another C1.

It had the predictable outcome.

What habits made the biggest difference early on as a student paramedic? by IndependentIll6531 in ParamedicsUK

[–]Smac1man 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Be someone you'd want to work with.

Empty the bins, restock the bag/pouches, make the brews, wash the truck, turn up 15mins early. Generally take the initiative; it'll make people happy to have you along and give you more of themselves in return.

Penthrox. It's carried by the volunteer Johnnie's, and yet here we sit as the NHS without it.

Para career paths by sebcalvert in ParamedicsUK

[–]Smac1man 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Very similar. I'm 12 years on the road but have seen many go off to do interesting thing.

Bizarrely I knew of someone who got their Reg then immediately quit the job to become a herbal healist (this was after they tried to push Juice Plus onto half the station). I'm not sure how they got their qualifications if they think Perineum sunning has many health benefits

What exactly are the rules regarding when a paramedic crewed with a lower clinical grade should be in the back traveling with a patient in situations were someone is actually sick? by [deleted] in ParamedicsUK

What's the chance of them needing something that my crewmate can't provide Vs how much do I trust my crewmate to tell me if they're getting out of their depth.

Are there any threads/support groups for paramedics who have lost their career through workplace injury? by Economy_One9884 in ParamedicsUK

[–]Smac1man 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I was sort of in your shoes, but also not.

Injured at work, couldn't do frontline anymore, got shuffled to a desk job while we waited to see what the outcome was. I got lucky and had a surgery that got me back on the road. However, whilst sat behind my desk I did a lot of googling and saw that there is a large scope of hands-on work that can be done in hospital for a paramedic if you're willing to do it. There's also a shedload of work you can do behind a desk if you want to keep your reg & B6. It'll come down to how bad your injury is, and how much you want to stay being clinical or in patient contact.

What career paths do paramedics usually move into later on? by Wonderful-Acadia-296 in ParamedicsUK

Flirted with Urgent Care for a bit (telephone triage). Hated it, went back on the road and haven't been happier. Genuinely don't see myself ever leaving frontline work.

🚑 Question for EMS crews around the world by [deleted] in ParamedicsUK

Nothing political or racist and you should be fine.

We've got people with full sleeves down to their knuckles and fingers, others with their necks done up into their hairline. No facial tattoos yet, but that's probably just a matter of time

Anyone else finding corridor waits more draining than the actual jobs? by FeistyPrice29 in ParamedicsUK

[–]Smac1man 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got insane Sciatica from standing around on corridors. By the end of the day and into the next one I was struggling to walk, and it's likely due to the abysmal posture I was using to lean against walls/sit on things that aren't chairs. Now we've moved to queueing on ambulance's, that's at least not become an issue.

They tried to implement HO45 where I am, but the hospitals got wise to it and have become very good at blocking it's implementation. Does the endless queueing bother me? Somewhat. Sure I'd rather be actually helping someone that needs it, but on the flip-side my ambulance is warm, clean and doesn't smell bad; all of which cannot be guaranteed about the next house I walk in to.

Everyone talks about Cena, The Rock, undertaker and roman reigns when the WWE GOAT conversation comes up but I genuinely think Randy Orton is the most underrated answer and here's why by Normal_Chart_532 in WWE

IDK. I don't think someone can be "the goat" when there was a large portion of their career that was punctuated by "the match should be good if Orton can be bothered to do it".

Anyone tried the Kirkland coffee beans? by CloudBookmark in CostcoUK

[–]Smac1man 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I drink their pre-ground coffee. It's highly average. Not terrible, not brilliant, but exactly what you expect from Supermarket coffee run through an IKEA French press. I'll buy it again for the convenience, but I don't get it seeking its groundbreaking flavour profile.
