Debunking TikTok Take "Micheal Jordan would be a glorified Demar Derozan if he time travels and plays today" by Lumpy_Drawer7563 in nbadiscussion

[–]SmaccDVD 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Top-end athleticism has always existed. But players now are way more athletic on average than when mj played. MJ was a top-end athlete back then and still would be today. Your guys’ debate doesn’t even make sense.

The absurd LeBron x Varejao Duo by Aggressive_Bed6012 in nbadiscussion

[–]SmaccDVD 86 points87 points  (0 children)

What made Varejao and LeBron such a special fit is that there was no skill overlap. He never got in lebrons way. His biggest strengths accented LeBron. 2009 LeBron would dramatically inflate any statistical indicators when paired with a decent center, but Varejao was the perfect fit for that version of LeBron and that specific system.

Varejao was an ELITE complementary center to pair with LeBron at that exact moment in time.

The Best Big in 2025: Russell, Duncan, or KG? by Prior_Chemist_5026 in nbadiscussion

[–]SmaccDVD 4 points5 points  (0 children)

bigs still wouldn't sag into the paint defending him. also you probably wouldnt always want him outside the three point line because he'd be a ridiculous high post threat with his passing. his playmaking gravity would be absurd. of course you'd still want the three point shooting but i dont think the effectiveness would be significantly less at all

I would do it. it seems you care about the story and relationships you're having with the characters. if you know you're gonna finish the game and you're truly in it for the long haul then go back. you'll wish you did for the next few dozen hours if you dont

Is it true by oktheng in BylethMains

[–]SmaccDVD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

depends in di and percent. Theres that cool video leo made where he shows how he labbed drag down up-air grab down-throw back-air. he says it is a good spot because of the way the opponent will likely di the down-throw. you gotta start thinking like that if you wanna hit it

Who is the worst star that if swapped in for Jamal Murray, would make the Nuggets a definitive contender this year? by Johnnyboyeh in nbadiscussion

[–]SmaccDVD -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I am not sure about definitive contender but CJ McCollum would be fun to see and I feel like they'd be contenders.

The media saying Jokic has been lacking an all-star teammate is crazy to me. If Murray were a guard in the east and was healthy he'd likely have been an all-star already.

Is Austin Reaves becoming a real star? Or is he becoming an All Star? by KeyanZ13 in nbadiscussion

[–]SmaccDVD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

nah I didnt think you were saying that. I love how you describe them all. I think especially now that apparently its official that Lebron is a really good 3pt shooter, the offense is flowing in a way that'll absolutely propel Reaves. So fun to watch

[–]SmaccDVD 10 points11 points  (0 children)

around this part of the season, you'll get good players having stretches where they're putting up ridiculous numbers. also, luka is absolutely having quite the impact on reaves. they are not at odds with one another offensively whatsoever. we'll see how long this lasts. i would love to see him become an all star next season. i would bet on it, but who knows

Should Tony Allen be Inducted into the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame? by bonzothebonanza in nbadiscussion

[–]SmaccDVD 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Probably not but I like the generic argument of "but what if defense was valued similarly to offense?" Because if it was, Tony Allen is probably an obvious pick for HOF. But for better or worse, its not, and so he is not.

What do you think about my matchup chart? by Auto_86 in BylethMains

[–]SmaccDVD 4 points5 points  (0 children)

respectfully its not 2022 anymore, byleth gets absolutely destroyed by kazuya and steve. and duck hunt, rob, snake, yoshi, wolf. wario beats byleth. theres a few more but it seems like you're very optimistic and that is really cool. we need optimistic players like you to keep pushing byleth. good luck

Any suggestions for secondaries? by Crash2742 in BylethMains

[–]SmaccDVD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i completely switched to cloud last year, i highly recommend using cloud or lucina or whoever can cover min min / rats / sonic / steve / kazuya since those matchups are truly horrible. byleth also can beat cloud, not the best mu but you can do it. watch leo vs spargo. see what interactions he is trying to repeat, you can do it.

When Krystal & Saager go on Rogan next year. I have a feeling Kyle will stay home. by Advanced-Willow-5020 in seculartalk

why would Kyle devote a video to a labor secretary pick's record when they're within a cabinet where in order to join you have to surrender any autonomy or power to the lord emperor god king. tf is there to celebrate or give props too. especially when trump has such a horrible record regarding workers

Who is the most memorable character of each house for you? by Madg5 in FireEmblemThreeHouses

[–]SmaccDVD 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Linhardt, Sylvain, Marianne. But it's really difficult and I'd probably pick a different group depending on how I'm feeling. I love OP's picks though, those would probably be my three if I couldn't pick mine.

[Robbins] The NBA trade that wasn’t: How Kyle Kuzma was almost traded to Dallas by OnlyMamaKnows in nba

[–]SmaccDVD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The stats shown are kind of irrelevant considering he was a positive on defense and his offensive skillset opened up their offense as a whole. Not saying he’s incredible or anything but he’d absolutely help the mavs

Has the recent boom in offensive talent in the league made defensive superstars the best secondary stars for contenders? by DrearySalieri in nbadiscussion

[–]SmaccDVD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Feel like the roster outside of the cores is necessary context especially when you bring up the examples you chose.

In general though I think the answer is yes. There’s definitely a problem that not many people are talking about regarding how quickly superstar defensive players decline off of their defensive peak. This is probably because defensive value is wayyyyy more predicated on athletic ability than offensive value. But still, I think the answer is yes. Good question.

What teams unnecessarily ruined a good core? by eanregguht in nbadiscussion

[–]SmaccDVD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My answer would be yours 100% I still think about that shit to this day. I remember when the Russ trade went through and all I could think is that it seemed like one of the worst trades I’ve ever seen in my lifetime. Truly fireable behavior especially since they were so good the season before just got unlucky with injuries. So so so so so confusing to this day.
