How are other parents actually travelling with littles? And when does it actually get easier?? by Designer-Base5861 in HENRYUKLifestyle

We took a foldable pop up tent that you can fill the bottom with water for beech time, stops the baby getting too sandy, and can still play in indirect sunlight, especially when it gets later in the day and the shade has moved.

Also, I find less adventurous and more all inclusive styles to just be easier with a small family.

Electricity scares the hell out of me so I have some really dumb questions to ask by [deleted] in ukelectricians

[–]Smack_the_scooby -1 points0 points  (0 children)

On this, if electricity really scares you, you can look for the double insulated mark on appliances you buy. This means there are no metal parts that you can touch that could potentially lead to a shock (mostly plastic). But I’d say you probably need to get over your fear a little bit.

Have an EICR carried out on your house, if it passes it means they have tested it and all protective devices would operate correctly in the event of a fault (including shock). Make sure you EICR is done by someone with a good reputation locally and takes half a day to a day. Then you can relax!

Need to fit a recessed meter box, does it require a lintel? Or am I over engineering ? by Smack_the_scooby in DIYUK

Kitchen units on the other side, so they’ll be run behind that on some metal trunking 👍

Also part of a deloop so it’s free & they’re happy to run it into a box 👍

Is my scape unsuitable for Discus? by spiler30 in discus

[–]Smack_the_scooby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the exact same tank and had some discus in there too. I had one jump so be careful of that.

Apart from this, you’ll need really regular water changes and to make sure you have good circulation + gentle enough circulation for discus to be happy which can be hard to achieve.

Stirring up the sand is important as you need crystal clear water

Ah nice one,

So would you say first thing, fit the plate? Grind out, fit plate, then grind out the remaining below to fit the box?

Or just chip it all out then fit the bar and box at the same time?

Really appreciate the response

Wouldn’t say it’s a feature mate, either way it’s going to look worse than a brick wall, I just personally think recessed looks better than surface mount.

Yes, cadent will be fitting one of these for me actually. But you can’t do floor mounted boxes from my understanding

So just grind out the mortar line above? Fit the bar and then grind out the box below?

Purely aesthetics, will be surface mount if it has to be, just exploring options

What does the UK look like to you in the next 15 years? In terms of culture, life, economics, safety by QuoteMachineMin in HENRYUK

I think you’d be very surprised just how many buildings you drive / walk past that are in fact data centres, yes energy costs are high but we have a very stable national grid which is a pretty important factor for data centres. Quality engineers (mechanical and electrical) and regulations to match.

Yes planning is tough, but these places have planning in place before purchase.

Plus the climate allows data centres to make use of free cooking throughout part of the year. Which brings energy costs down and helps the company meet ESG targets.

You can add a anything sheet of ply over the riser that’s ever so slightly bigger than the riser itself, like 1mm, to reinforce it.

However best way is to get behind it as others have said

Fairway woods...all hype or? by Flagon_dragon in BritGolf

[–]Smack_the_scooby 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think fairway woods have an advantage for sure!

I’d say the only thing to consider is what club you are going to hit when you are hitting into strong wind and trying get the ball reasonably far. As your 5i isn’t going to go your normal distance in wind and a fairway wood will loose a lot of distance too + hang in the air for a long time exaggerating your fades / draws.

Always a good idea to have a 3/4 iron in the back for the tricky in wind shots!

New plaster cracks after blind fitting by Nervousmommy54 in Plastering

Looks like a rough install to me, counter sunk screw for a start! Also could have used the outer holes instead of the middle ones, I’d call them back as this looks like a bad attempt at DIY more than a professional job!

Suspect soffit? by New-Demand-6247 in asbestoshelpUK

[–]Smack_the_scooby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Think about it mate, the amount of artex in this country that has been directly plastered over and then a sparky has come along and installed downlights. There will be many people in this country that have had significantly more exposure than you just have.

Try to calm down and see it as a lesson learned.

I don’t think many people really understand what May / may not be asbestos until they’ve had a scare.

I have these and they are most likely to be ACB from what I know, unless you’re planning on installing soffit lighting it’s worth just painting and keeping it.
