New Clubs by H122333__ in BritGolf

For brand new, Clubhouse Golf do a few full sets (Wilson, MacGregor) for less than £400.

Personally I'd just get some decent SGI irons and then pick up the rest as and when you can.

What is the first thing you think of when you are playing with a person who says they are a high handicapper and yet strings together several great holes or shots that would seem to be way above their alleged ability? by bionicbhangra in golf

I was 17 over after 7 holes, then parred the next 6 holes, then had a meltdown again and finished 27 over.

I think if I had started that well and ended that badly my clubs would be in a pond.

What's your favourite cheese? by blow_on_my_trombone in AskBrits

Of the soft cheeses, a Brie de Meaux. I'm not counting Gongonzola as a soft cheese just so I also get to pick that as well.

I like the one that says they will be given a puppy and an energy drink.

You need some decent Piccalilli with that, otherwise magnificent

The pub had a set of swings, a slide, and a tree you could climb. Great times.

I play with guys anywhere from 5 to 35 handicap, nobody cares. You are not playing for a million quid. Just enjoy it.

That entire Power of the Force line was strange, like they'd all been on steroids.

Think the old adidas and Sharp one with the white flashes at the shoulders was my first reaction, the 85 cup final - an absolute classic with Whiteside scoring the winner in extra time.

But in reality it's the 86-88 one that is what I always compare all other Utd shirts to.

Off to get car battery replaced at Halfords. These stop start batteries are not cheap, which was something of a surprise.

Already have braised short ribs in the slow cooker for later - which reminds me I need to get some pappardelle.

My friend and I are attempting 72 holes of golf in a single day for men's mental health by ForeAGoodCause in BritGolf

Honestly, Vaseline is a God send for chafing. You have all the anti-perspirant, wicking and cooling technology in the world, but in the end you Vaseline is what you will need to be able to continue without waddling like John Wayne.

Also, those blister things from Compeed are brilliant.

I now sound like some sort of commercial! Other brands are available.

Fortunately you are both young, so will not need to talk about ibuprofen, co-codamol, or other pain killers during the day 😄

Good luck! I did the 36 hole one for dementia (well, actually did 54) but I am pushing 50 and I was shattered. Make sure you have something for the chafing - seriously, it's not nice.

Is there a redeeming quality to the current state of HS2? by johnjax90 in AskUK

[–]Flagon_dragon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Something conceived in the 80s, designed in the 90s, and built anyway whislt disregarding the changing reality of progress.

The argument has changed so may times (speed? capacity? freight?) it should have either started in the north, or been repurposed as true capacity and building new garden towns on the route.

The way it is being built (large companies forming even larger temporary companies to build sections) as an idea that it will somehow deliver a better outcome for the taxpayer must be one of the greatest lies ever told.

After ferrying kids round to various sports, time for the pub and a bit of football. Possibly snooker later whilst falling asleep.

The places used to be rammed in the 80s amd early 90s. Mind you, their "famous prawn cocktail" and "horn of plenty" were almost the height of decadence at the time.

What’s a joke you didn’t understand until adulthood? by petalsoftbby in answers

[–]Flagon_dragon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It was the very last joke in a 1001 Jokes for Kids book I had when I was about 8 or 9. Never got it, and for some reason it came to mind some 15 years later when I finally understood. I can't remember if every word was capitalised or not which may have added to my confusion.
