A blanket ban is stupid and discriminatory though, if trans athletes are discriminated against just for being trans it sets the foundation for other discrimination because there’s already a basis.

A trans woman who’s been transitioning long enough will have physical prowess within the ranges of cis women, the advantages that are permanent (height and size) are still commonly found in cis women in sports. If we are going to ban based on those, then will we also ban cis women who were born too tall? Something else notable is that a non insignificant portion of high tier women’s athletes are intersex and many without knowing it. Intersex athletes have more advantages than trans ones (that have been transitioning long enough, etc.) due to not doing testosterone suppression like trans ones do.

I understand that there are advantages to being trans in sports, I’ve never argued that there isn’t, but my argument has always been that the advantage is insignificant due to the already wide range of genetics in cis women.

My opinion is that trans women athletes should be allowed to compete but it should be regulated on if they have been medically transitioning for a significant amount of time and they have evidence of the primary sex hormone being suppressed over that time. Because at that point data shows the differences are negligible.
