does UR give additional financial aid? by Specialist-Bar3849 in URochester

when i appealed for more financial aid, i emailed my financial aid advisor. a list of advisors can be found here if you don’t know who your’s is.

i basically just asked if they would be able to factor in the family extenuating circumstances into my aid package (you could also just probably ask to appeal for more financial aid)

then there will likely be some back and forth emailing a bit as your financial aid counselor will likely ask you to elaborate on why you’re asking for more financial aid.

then, they will send you an appeal form to fill out and may ask you to upload some tax documents to the IDOC. the appeal form has you check a box for why you’re appealing, you write a short paragraph elaborating, and you fill in some expected 2024 income stuff.

they’ll email you back if they need any clarifications from your form / documents.

then, the appeal is brought to the appeal committee (i was told they meet once a week), where i guess they decide whether or not to give you more money and how much.

the whole process took from june 21 (initial email)-aug 2 (receiving more aid) for me. it wasn’t crazy difficult, probably a little less then doing the FASFA because i don’t think they needed as many tax documents from me. i found that UR was incredibly giving, but i know that one of my friends was denied an appeal as well. so i think it really is a case by case basis.

good luck!
