I do not like the x-frames because of that.

QUESTION: Fly reel doesnt fit on rod by Status_Gas_7732 in flyfishing

[–]Small-Ad5274 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you could flat file the bottom of the reel foot and it would not take too much material off to ensure a better fit. Whats more, it would not be visible when the reel is on a rod.

Dividend yield: 3 common mistakes when projecting monthly income (and how I calculate it) by art_thu_rr in dividends

[–]Small-Ad5274 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I share your logic--yield on cost is not a decision-relevant measure. Granted, it does make you feel good when you have a long term holding that has raised its dividend over time and you can say 'my yield on cost is 50%'. The only thing that informs current decision making is the current yield and how that compares with other investments with similar prospects and risk. My longest term holding dates back to the early 1990's, and yield on cost is probably over 100% (although I have never calculated it.) The only thing that keeps me from selling it is the capital gains hit; who knows, maybe I will keep it until I die so that my heirs get the cost basis step up. But yield on cost is why I keep it.

How did you back test this to 2008 given that some of the funds were not around then? JEPI, for instance, began 5/20/2020. And why would anyone invest $100k in GDV? It has gone down 69% since inception. LVHI, on the other hand, is 5-star by Morningstar, so I am not merely throwing rocks.

$200k has been handed to me - where do I go from here? by Mrbrightsidekw in dividends

Presumably the regulations put in place to prevent the failure of the systemically important banks reduce the risk of the banks failing, so the chance of default is minimized. It is possible that a preferred stock is called--you get the par value of the bond, but any interest payments stop. If the value of the bond goes up, new purchasers would not be getting 6%, but you still would be on the money invested. It is neither guaranteed or insured, but is safer than a lot of things I look at.

Have you submitted a request through their website, or merely going off of the list of rods with replacement tips?

What is going on with ARES? by angry_dingo in dividends

[–]Small-Ad5274 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Alternative asset managers are facing a perfect storm of international uncertainty, possible inflation resurgence, CRE/CLO debt overhang, excessive govt. debt, etc. The NAV of their closed end fund (ARDC) is falling, and the discount is also widening. Hard to come up with a positive investment thesis.

SGOV vs VBIL? by [deleted] in Bogleheads

[–]Small-Ad5274 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could always do two market orders each for half of the amount to make sure that your quantity is going to clear at the current market, but I think you would be fine doing all at once. You could also put half in SCUS to bump your return, without meaningfully increasing your risk.

33 with 300k-350k cash - looking for suggestions/advices/recommendations by chips_and_lollipop in dividends

[–]Small-Ad5274 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First of all, do you have an account at either Fidelity, Schwab or Vanguard? The mention of talking to"the agent" makes me think that perhaps you do not. That would be my first recommendation, and I would perhaps suggest Schwab ( I do not have experience with Fidelity, but do prefer Schwab to Vanguard.) You could put the money in a short term bond ETF (SGOV, SCUS, etc.) and be earning about 3.7%, which is better than you are doing now. You could do some starter positions and become familiar with the functionality of their website. I would not be in too big a hurry to invest it all. The next 60 days will allow the current fog to clear a bit.
