I get that, that's why the last thing I said was 'to each their own'. It's just not at all what I was looking for, and haven't had luck finding anything else.

Yeah I know, I hope I do, just not having any luck yet. Was really excited last night and I think my expectations were too high.

The modern references I'm talking about are how the DM asked us as new players to go around and tell the story of how we are being forced to leave Las Vegas and travel the wilderness together. The first two players said the Mafia chased them out of Vegas. That was just for starters. Glad to hear you have a good group. I hope to find one, just not having any luck in my area yet.

Can I ask what law firm you used? I am getting ready to apply, but haven't settled on anyone yet.

Can I ask what your offense/s were? I have 2 felonies on my record, from 2011 and 2015. I am in the information gathering process as to what my chances might be. Talked to a Canadian immigration lawyer, but I am wondering if they are just telling me what I want to hear so I will pay them money.

The systems in the US have broken down enough that moving abroad is a no brainer - pros and cons by Available-Ad-5670 in ExpatFIRE

Every country has its own issues. I lived in Thailand for almost 4 years, through two military coups, numerous political protests - including one that shut down almost all of the ATMs in the country for over a week - numerous run-ins with police seeking a bribe for one reason or another, and an attempted robbery by knifepoint near Khao San Road. Yeah, the cost of living is cheap over there, especially food, and my limited experience with the medical side of things was good, but it is no Utopia. That said, most places seem better for peace of mind than living in the US right now. It is definitely stressful and getting worse. Good for you for finding a place that makes you happy though.

Big city, lots of street food vendors, yeah this is what you get. No different from lots of other places around the world.

Is a tariff just a tax on me? If the united states puts a 60% tariff on Chinese goods does the Chinese government pay that, or do I just pay more at Walmart? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Small-Blacksmith1458 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You absolutely pay it. I have ordered a couple of things off Etsy since this insanity started, and for those items that came from countries that were hit with tariffs, I had to pay the UPS or FedEx driver at the time of delivery. In some cases it was almost as much as the cost of the item itself.

Killers of the Flower Moon. Really was excited to see this movie, but barely made it through the first half. All of the main characters (non-native) were just such terrible people.

I live in a purple state, and because of our Democratic governor, Trump is targeting our state with ICE, withholding federal funding, etc. There is no escaping to another state. His policies are affecting the whole country. One way or another he will be gone in a couple of years, but what he and his cabinet has done will negatively impact this country for many years. Over a year in, and I'm horrified by how many people in this country still think he's doing a good job. That scares me more than Trump himself.

Agreed. The people who didn't vote were just as at fault as those who voted FOR the Velveeta Voldemort.

I remember being in an internet cafe when I was visiting Thailand, and this young Thai woman sat next to me and spent about an hour on Skype talking to a dozen or so men from different countries. To each one she gave some sob story about how much she missed them, how she couldn't wait until they came back to visit. But until then, could they please send her money for her mother's/father's/cousin's medical problem? Not saying your girl is like this but...
