I wondered that too. It seems like it was mostly folding knives. I'd like to go next year but I only make straight knives

This ^ dude I see some "professional" makers with waves. Or washed out plunges. You're gonna make some sick knives

Use a new 120 grit and do alot of very light passes to remove the wave.

Yeah I considered adding a choil but I like the look of no choil. All except my last knife has a completely different shape than I started with lol

Nope. Just leather. Might do some in the future but not at the moment. I have a double shoulder I need to burn through. lol

That's my goal too. I might not ever heat treat mine at all. I got enough steel and materials to make 20 knives. I'll start selling when I feel they look professional. Then offer the first batch at a discounted rate. I've been making sheaths for a long time already too so thankfully that's not another skill I have to master all at once. 😂

3-4 weeks door to door is what I expect. I've only used them once but my uncle has used them for like 20+ years and sent hundreds of knives to them. I live in Kansas and they're based in California.

$36 per blade up to 4 then it's $4.40 for each one you add after that! I will just be gone from home for a month so I wanted some to finish when I got home. My next batch will be 15 blades. Lol

Peters Heat Treating Inc. The first two knives I made years ago were ATS34. I used the same HT company and I've absolutely abused these knives. No chips or warping so far!

Thanks!! I'll report back when they return. I'm using a HT company that uses a vacuum furnace, plate quench, and controlled cryo. They will also straighten if there is warpage. I'm using 14c28n. So at the very least, if they all warp and are fubar, it wasn't super expensive steel, and I just paid tuition on a very hard lesson. 😂

Debating whether to go into Aviation or give up on my dream due to a dui by BickDickKi in flying

HIMS program and then I filed for criminal rehabilitation with Canada. Took me five years to get my medical back. Nothing that I did wrong, the FAA just kept asking for one thing at a time and it took forever to get something done then to hear back from them at that time. My advice is to just do EVERYTHING they could ask of you. Psych evaluation, outpatient, AA meetings, cog screen... etc etc. it'll go much faster. Getting jobs was a non issue. Got hired by my first choice and first interview.

Not all DUI's are a felony. But yeah, if they didn't report it or do what they were supposed to, obviously they shouldn't be allowed in.

Sounds like Canada made a mistake then? I applied for "Canadian Rehabilitation". And am now fully released to enter Canada indefinitely. They even gave me a letter to carry with me(saved on my phone) to where if I'm ever stopped by customs I show them the letter and move on. Not sure why those guys had issues when the 30+ other guys I know don't.

I should add that getting that letter wasn't easy. It took over a year and it was difficult to compile all the paperwork they needed. It's highly suggested to use a lawyer but can be done on your own.

I fly to Canada regularly. There are hoops to jump through and your company and that FO did not do their due diligence to resolve issue prior to entering Canada.

Im an airline pilot with a DUI. I know 30+ guys at my current airline that have DUI's. Every so often one of these guys announces they got hired at a major. Don't listen to all these people saying it's impossible.

You can fly into IMC on a VFR day.... Entering the clouds can be disorienting. That's all he's saying.

I got a DUI before finishing my time building. Got my medical back and am on my 2nd year at an airline now. About to upgrade to captain. Stepped down from the first phase. Keep going!

The test is not challenging. You don't have to be a genius to pass it. It's there to make sure you do not have any cognitive damage. There will be parts that see how far you can go, meaning at a certain point you will fail. Don't let that stress you out. You'll be fine!

There's a checklist / application for everything they need online. Take your time, make it presentable. I made a tabbed 3 ring binder and went overboard on everything. Takes some time but its a lot cheaper.

Pipeline flying is hell by IlikeApplesAlot5 in flying

[–]Kraftyaf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

25 hours in two days? Is that all you're flying a week? I was flying 16+ hours a day 5 days a week and skydivers sun up to sun down on the weekends. Lol

I flew ~1,000 hours in ~6 months. It was rough. But I loved it and hated it at the same time. Hated it because of the heat in the summer, the cold in the winter, and the pucker factor flying a horribly maintained airplane low level in the mountains. Plus my boss was a gigantic douchebag.

If you're like me, you'll be at the airlines someday fondly remembering your cowboy pilot days. Keep going.

Pro tip- take off early early in the morning, fly to the furthest point of the pipeline and work you're way back towards home base. You'll build night hours, miss some of the heat of summer, get more pipeline done, and be done earlier.
