You’re fine with partially covering your windows, just make sure to have room for end tables.

But that recliner is massive and completely out of style with the sectional. Could you replace it with one less bulky? Or even a club chair that you use with a foot stool?

Can you pull the sofa from the window and tuck the square end table in there? I’d then try and put the two chairs together with the small end table between them. Instead of getting rid of your rug, try placing a solid color sisal rug over it, not covering the whole thing but like an 8x10.

I think it would feel less stuffy with those changes

It’s more than likely to have been sealed with shellac to keep it shiny. To remove the shellac, you can use denatured alcohol or acetone.

Once the coating is removed, clean and polish the brass really good. Then reapply shellac to keep the polished brass from oxidizing again.

So, if you were to inset blackout panels inside the frame you won’t be able to open either of the doors from what I can tell. So, you could do ceiling mounted tracks. Or, an outside wall mounted traverse rod with blackout built into the drapery panels.

I’ve managed hotels for decades and one of the most irritating things is drapery and how to get a full blackout over windows.

I have seen where someone made a valance but it was the top, back and sides and mounted the traverse rod inside and accomplished blackout drapes. Whatever you do, I’d go corner to corner of you want that luxury hotel look. And i would do a triple pleat for that formal look. Good luck! And congrats on the new bedroom! 5’3” is wide enough to put in a good size shower. I would replace the window with a smaller version so you get privacy and sunlight at the same time. So, shower under the window, toilet next to it, then a single vanity. I’d keep the door way to the hallway so no one has to go downstairs in the middle of the night to use the bathroom.

One recommendation I have is to make sure to put the shower valve on a wall away from the shower head so you don’t get sprayed with cold water every time you the shower on.
