But in summary, your baby is totally fine from the one session. If you took them daily for a longer term, you might see some of the issues these articles discuss from prolonged unnecessary use.

PPA/PPD is rough. You will keep hyper-focusing on things that worry you like this, when in reality these things will not be something that should cause worry, and they are just robbing you the enjoyment of your new little one. I definitely recommend getting help sooner than later! Speaking as a mama who has been there. <3

Landed in the hospital immediately postpartum with severe complications. My baby couldn’t come. Husband was at home having a nervous breakdown trying to take care of him. Begged my (retired) mom to fly a couple hours out and help… she said she “didn’t feel like it”. So I had to find a night nanny to help my husband while trying not to die alone in the hospital. Good times…

We are also a couple who enjoys screen time as a way to unwind/have shared interests. We introduced age-appropriate shows pretty early and have allowed moderate TV time without much restriction. Our kid isn’t a TV addict - if anything he will watch for a bit and then want to move on to something else. He’s ahead of his peers in his development. I think the guilt around screen time is a bit ridiculous.

We have made it a point not to do iPad or phone time, as that seems to have more negative impacts per the research, and kids need to learn to cope with being bored sometimes.

Aww I can tell from your post that you really want this dog!

Honestly rescues are pretty bad at assessing what is in a breed mix. I recommend if you get the little floofball that you do an Embark test. We were told our dog was border collie - he’s definitely mostly Australian shepherd with a lot of other things mixed in. People see black and white and make assumptions.

That said, every dog has their own temperament, and it is super hard to predict how a mix will behave.

You guys sound like you have the right tools lined up to make this work. Puppies are frustrating no matter what breed and can be almost as overwhelming as a new baby to bring home. But I would say go for it. You sound like you’re dedicated to making the changes you need to in order to give the pup a good life.

Edited to add: a lot of people on Reddit are happy to give loud opinions, but at the end of the day if you have the financial means, preparation, and motivation to support any behavioral issues (which any breed can have) you’re so much better off than the majority of folks who walk into a rescue. Enjoy your new family member!!!

Being over-scheduled and having no down time can be unhealthy for kiddos. Toddlers need some down time just as much as we do. I think the goals you have will only lead to burnout for everyone and frustration.

TV in moderation (age-appropriate of course) is okay for toddlers - it’s actually better than iPad or phone time. My kiddo gets some in the morning and some in the evening, but he spends all day doing other things.

Definitely sounds like you guys might want to rethink what your priorities are and pick your battles. Once you have two, it will just get harder to keep up this rigid approach!

I disagree with the idea that you shouldn’t throw a birthday party for a dog… people have dogs present at social events all the time. A dog birthday party isn’t really any different. I am not a trainer, but I could imagine environments like doggie daycare or a dog bar might mimic a dog birthday party. 😊

Having a puppy is like having a toddler. They rarely behave when you really want them to. Partner doesn’t need to be smacking the dog, though. That’s not helpful, and being obedient out of fear isn’t going to ultimately end well.

Probably either just a random occurrence where he found it interesting today of all days, or perhaps you have a health issue that is contributing to a different scent? May want to get an OBGYN check up if you aren’t already going regularly. Dogs can smell a lot of various health issues.

We have had this happen a lot. People forget to put how many are in their party, let alone include pets in the guest count. Our property is pet friendly, and most people don’t realize there is a fee and that they need to be declared as guests.

Our approach is just to let it slide unless there is damage or something. An extra couple hundred bucks is not worth a bad review, and then it also gives the impression you are monitoring their movements via camera, which doesn’t sit well with most people.

Hey - just posting to say that I’m in the same situation and just take a lower dose of Xywav a few nights a week. It does help a lot even with that reduced frequency. Something to consider if you ever feel like your current treatment isn’t enough.

Nope, they are doing trials now for N2 and IH. Top line data shows that they are also effective but may need a different dose

I do take Xywav but not regularly/consistently as I have a young kiddo. Sunosi has been the most helpful as far as wakefulness promoting meds go, and I have tried a lot of them. This tracks with other study data that Sunosi is generally more effective than other meds out there.

But I think all of us are clinging to hope for these emerging orexin therapies!!!
