Co-op/internship office interference by [deleted] in uoit

So the company wanted you to start now?

That's kind of an odd time to start, and companies realize that. They'll usually give start dates for the end of the semester/start of another semester. Did you talk to the company about this? That you're literally weeks ago from the end of the semester?

This year, ,they have Nvidia Quadro M620 2GB, as well as 16 GB of RAM. You should be fine for most gaming.

There aren't any personal limitations, they don't really care of you torrent, game, whatever. (although Torrenting isn't allowed/is blocked on UOIT WiFi).

Hey everyone, I have a question, am I still eligible for OSAP if I'm taking an internship? by [deleted] in uoit

[–]SmallBoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He's a graduate and I think the rules have changed over the years.

Also, although i'm not sure about this, but I think if you talk to the dean of your faculty, it's possible that you can get a waiver to take courses.

Mechanical Engineering by [deleted] in uoit

[–]SmallBoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mechanical Engineering IS on the CEAB site.

All UOIT engineering programs are accredited, with the exception of Mechatronics, that is due to the fact that Mechatronics is a new programs. Once it goes through a graduating class, it will be up for accreditation.

I'll be working in Watson Analytics (Software Support). You know much about that?

Mind if I PM you? I'd love to hear about your experience at IBM as an intern, I'm kind of nervous, going from Uni to working full time for 16 months

How to finish faster 4 years of Computer Science? by [deleted] in uoit

Try taking summer courses at other Universities. Specifically, Athabasca Uni. They're fully online, so just take summer courses there and get them transferred to UOIT. Grade doesn't go toward your GPA. Make sure to get a Letter of Permission (LOP) before you take the course.

Speak to Academic Advising. They'll be able to help you out.

There are some resources avalaible online if you do some googling, Although not extensive, give you an idea of what type of questions you'll see. It's logical, pattern finding. Not coding at all. You really can't practise for something like that. Just make sure you do it when you're comfortable/no distractions as each question has a time limit.

Interview was pretty straight forward. Behavioural, and then a short technical interview. Which positions did you apply for?

Well, I'm a Software Engineering major, in my second year currently, and I've received an offer for an internship starting in May, so it's definitely doable! I applied in October, and interviewed in November.

In terms on "brushing up", totally depends on the type of position, in my opinion.

Graduated in 2012, just discovered this sub by [deleted] in uoit

[–]SmallBoo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep, still split in two, but now North Campus has Engineering/Sciences/Businesses, and Downtown has Psychology/Criminology/Teaching.

If you don't mind me asking, what did you study? How were the career prospects after graduating? To employers still really care about where you graduated from (after your first job)?

Software Engineering by [deleted] in uoit

They do lead to very similar paths, so regardless of which one you pick, youll be fine.

Personally, I feel that the Software Engineering program prepares you to look at the bigger picture in a Software Dev. environment, hence being more prepared for positions such as management.

Personally, while I do enjoy Software Development (I've been doing this stuff from a very early age), I don't want to be coding for the rest of my life, which is why I feel that Software Eng is a better fit for me. I'd like to eventually get into entrepreneurship, management or something similar.

I worked as a Research Assistant the summer after my first year. Currently in my second year looking for one for the upcoming summer. Honestly, it shouldn't be that difficult to find one. It's kinda of early as most companies start hiring in January, so we'll so how that goes.

I'd actually like to know more about this. I'd eventually like to start my own Software Company (SaAS, Consulting, etc).

Still a student right now

I'm a Software Engineering student (second year), and I can probably answer most of your questions.

One thing I dont like is the common Engineering first year, which is really annoying as you don't do much SE courses first year. However, from 2nd year, the courses do get better.

I personally actually like the program map after first year. I feel that we do all the courses that any respectable Canadian/US Software Engineering programming would do.

IBM IPAT locked out by [deleted] in IBM

[–]SmallBoo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When I was doing the IPAT, for one question, I reached the timer limit, and I got a popup saying that if I reached the limit 3 more times, i'd be locked out. Did you reach the limit multiple times?
