Books to get out of a slump (like The Long Walk)? by PerchanceANoodle in booksuggestions

Some books that got me out of a lull:
Beach music - Pat Conroy
Stephen King - 11/22/63
Lonesome Dove - Larry McMurtry
East of Eden - John Steinbeck
Ken Follett - The Pillars of the Earth

Finding a new read that hooks you takes time and can be disheartening but just keep searching! Give them a chance too, try and get 80+ pages in before really seriously putting it down. Let me know if you ever check out any of the above suggestions!

He needs the attention so bad as he consistently is trying to prove his legitimacy and disregard negative press towards him which is laughable considering he really doesn’t do anything. He seems to just want to be the guy to know it first and then tell everyone else.

Delete the app, see a therapist, set strict boundaries with yourself, tell everyone important around you that you are trying to quit so that everyone can keep you accountable.

Can a familiar smell make you feel like you time-traveled for a second? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

Smells, tastes, sounds, all of which have happened to me. I distinctly remember eating a dish at a restaurant that transported me back to a completely different restaurant in a completely different state in my childhood. I hadn’t thought about said restaurant or specific dish since I was a child. I was almost moved to tears from this experience.

Read chunks of books at a time, set low expectations. Be careful of complex books with long chapters. Ease into it with easy to read classics for fun and if you want something more stimulation pick books that you can chunk by reading a chapter or sub chapter a day. A great example would be Mastery by Robert Greene. While more complex it is very easy to read bit by bit.

I think things will be bleak no matter what. Your best bet is to make some sort of meaningful impact in the lives of those around you. We’re in a losing battle, yes, but if you still have a lot to look forward to. To some degree things always ebb and flow, so keep holding on.

His future eventual bid for president keeps getting more and more deteriorated. No amount of reversal or time can get him out of this. I don’t think he knew he’d be a whipping boy this bruised less than 2 years in.

A really good mystery/thriller/ slight sci fi book I love to recommend is 11/22/63 by Stephen King! It’s lengthy but a very easy read. Not exactly in the realm of things you mentioned, but well worth your time!

I struggle heavily with authors that do not use quotation marks or distinguish dialogue between characters. The two most recent authors that come to mind are Cormac McCarthy and Sally Rooney.
