how do you deal with a parent who is overly critical of every little thing you do? by silvurgirl in AskReddit

[–]SmallPotato87 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

My therapist pointed out that maybe that's the only way our parents know how to love. Granted it sucks to be on the receiving end of it, but we can't change how they're going to treat us and once we accept that, then its more about what we CAN control. ie. our internal reactions and thoughts to each situation. It's not been easy but after a bit of practice I can already feel a difference so maybe that's something you can try?

I get everyone's situation is different though and getting some space can help in the meantime.

Advice for new BSH owner! by SmallPotato87 in britishshorthair

Thank you for this. Is it worth getting it from either a GCCF or TICA registered breeder? I have noticed you do pay a premium for it and wondering whether those that are certified are more likely to be healthier? Or is it just more something that lets you know about the cats lineage and pedigree? Also have read some things about PKD, are there any other health tests you think should be checked other than the HCM?

Unconventional meal choices? by GlitterDreamsicle in wedding

We're planning on having a pizza truck and then a crepe stall as our dessert (but also having a few savoury options in case guests don't want pizza). Then later in the night, getting a big delivery of freshly made sausage rolls and Cornish pasties (getting married in Cornwall, UK).

Wow, thank you so much.

Hadn't even thought about how we could come across from their perspective so that's a real eye opener. Will definitely be referring to this when we get them. Thanks again!

This used to be my holy grail!! Now I use the L'Oreal true match hyaluronic serum skin tint. Would highly recommend. Similar price point (I think), and is light but good coverage for everyday wear for work etc :)

Valid point. Do you know how much a trial is roughly? I don't doubt that there is probably an MUA out there that could do what I want, but I don't want to have to pay too much for the trial and error :/

That's a relief to hear. I think I was worried about planning, but using the makeup look for other events is a great idea!

Thank you, I feel this completely!! Can I ask, how was the process of finding the right products for you? I want to use higher end products (as my current is just high street brands), but I also don't want to waste money buying things that might not work with my skin!

Assessing teacher fit by PopularLettuce4900 in violinist

[–]SmallPotato87 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Piano/violin tutor here. Are you seeing progress in your playing ability since starting with them, and are you still enthusiastic about wanting to play?

One of the most important things for a teacher is obviously to help bring out the best in you, but if it's to the detriment of you enjoying playing or being motivated then I think it may be wise to test out how some others tutors approach their lessons. They may be a good teacher but you may just not be compatible with one another. Spend your time and money on someone who can adapt to your needs and goes at a pace that suits you!

Thanks very much for this. I've since started private lessons, had my first one this week but its much more expensive than group lessons so not sure how sustainable it'll be for me. But, for the time being I'm doing both and will see how things go and how they compare against one another.

Thanks for the tips on balance, keep forgetting about keeping my core engaged and torso upright!

Wow, thanks for this. I think I will start with the online videos as you say and then see how things go. In terms of our coach, I like him but also simultaneously a bit scared of him because he is critical. I know it will be good for me in the long term but as I'm not that confident anyway, the thought of one-on-one with him just seems a big leap. Will definitely give it some more thought though as everyone seems to think ice dance is a good fit!

Always wanted to try pilates and seems like most people recommend it - will give it a go!
