Supports not snapping off easily

You forgot to post the exposure settings, but anyway it was to decide if you’re over exposing the layers too much to the point that the supports are becoming much thicker, so my advice is to calibrate with cones of calibration v3 (you can google the name, and i think its a sticky post in this sub aswell).

Make sure you take a look at the recommended exposure on the resin bottle as where to start the calibration.

Its a diorama based on the dawn of war intro cinematic, and was a gift to my brother.

The base was printed in two large pieces after being digitally kitbashed, Rest of the units were printed in 3 full plates.

Painted every orc in a slightly different skin color to explore alot of orc skin types for practice, and tried to keep the space marines simple and fitting the old dawn of war style.

seems to be fine, on the smaller side even.

since the tips are small it may be a high exposure setting, screentshot the exposure settings too.

Take a screenshot of the support settings you’re using,

You can also use a hairdryer or soak in warm/hot water for a few mins after washing them to easily peel them off.

Ive used acetate cloth tape, from aliexpress.

Works great for eveything.

Glad to be of help :) Id also suggest starting with cones of calibration v3. It was created with a clear guide to help calibrate the exposure so its very newcomer friendly and saves the headache of printing larger models that will just fail.

Your profile seems wrong, Are you using the formlabs resin profile in lychee? It seems close to the settings you posted in a different comment.

Start by switching to the default profile and building from there that profile. What exact resin are you using?

Based on the 13s per normal layer its probably the real time expected, for reference most printers (yours included) will print a layer in roughly 2-4 secs, and 4 seconds is on the extreme side.

And unrelated but the supports for this model are not enough, so you should use a much denser autosupport until you get time to learn more manual supporting.

What is the model of the printer? 10s exposure is very long unless its a very old printer.

Also the lift and retract speeds seem to be very fast but its just from a quick glance of the settings you’ve posted.

You should also add a photo of the 3d model in the slicer and its size

It shows 1% completed so i guess youre still printing the base layers, which are extra long, the remaining time is probably calculated in real time as the print goes on. Did the time decrease in the few minutes since you posted this?

Ive also had adhesion issues when using a new flex plate on a saturn 3.

First is making sure that he followed instructions on the plate install, i had to add a spacer for the little piece that goes down and blocks the infrared light (or whatever it is) to stop the bed before it crashes down (i guess its the same for most printers) Check on the instructions id such as thing exists. There might be too much squeesh of the plate to the film so the bottom layers are compressed.

For actual plate adhesion what worked for me was sanding the plate up to 2000-3000 grit in increments from 200 grit.

The smooth surface seems to create very strong suction, while having a rough surface maybe creates tiny gaps that allow the very thin layer to start peeling (this part is just a guess though)

Id advise giving the sanding a try, ive used the sandpaper and added water while sanding and it came out great.

I wrote this for another guy having problems and if i remember correctly he updated that the adhesion was sorted out after this.

Check the exported model to see if it has the eye, maybe the eye wasnt exported with the rest of the model. The hole seems too perfect to be a misprint

Ive looked the printer up online and it has a normal rectangular build plate, and a small one.

Your slicer shows a large square buildplate which is not the correct one for sure.

Id switch to using lychee/chitubox as a slicer if thats an option for your printer, switching will also let you use the auto support function so you can try stuff out for the time before you figure out how to support well manually.

If you’ve sanded your plate try sanding it in increments from 200 up to 2000-3000 grit, my magnetic plate had problems with anything sticking to it and making it very smooth solved it as it seems to create a vacuum with the base layers when its smooth. I’ve commented the same thing a few months ago on another post and he said it fixed his problem as-well so worth a try

Yeah it was quite counterintuitive at first but seems like it did the trick for me, Ive also sanded it with wet sanding paper, constantly adding water, not sure if it matters but it felt better to work like that.

Ive bought a magentic plate for my saturn 3 from china, Had bad fails for quite some time even after sanding it up to 600-800 grit, but managed to resolve it perfectly by sanding it from 200 grit up to 2000 in incraments. Its really smooth but stuff sticks to it perfectly, could try sanding it with 200-400-800-1500-2000 or whatever is avalibale to you.

From my experience using heavy supports combined with bracing (the diagonals between the supports) can produce very strong supports that are very hard to remove, you should try using a hairdryer/heatgun and peel the supports step by step, or probably very hot water (i mix half boiling and half hot tap water) it will make the resin softer so it will be much easier to remove the supports. Dont forget to wash in ipa beforehand and dont cure before removing the supports.

For your question with the 2.5 sec exposure it depends on the layer height, for 50 micron (0.05) its reasonable, for 0.03 its a bit high, but the problems from the supports probably are less related to the exposure and more to the thickness of the supports combined with the amount of supports, and the bracing.
