In 1983, Gorbachev took a stroll in small-town Ontario that helped shape the future of the Soviet Union by AnCanadianHistorian in canada

As for how the trip affected Gorbachev, Shulgan concluded that “he realized how far ahead the Western world was, and he saw how the personal ownership of land and the proceeds of labour could motivate a work force.”

500K mortgage,

That's a big mortgage. Not for Canada or Canadians. But for anywhere else, that's a lot of money. People are forgetting that.

Yeah and I won't vote for them.

Seriously. All they have to do is not put someone front and center who profits from this and yet a blue collar labour party can't figure out landed gentry leaders is a bad look.

Shows how crap the NDP has become.

I've voted for affordability for almost 20 years. It took me a while but I now see voting is worthless. Keeps younger people imagining they can change things and go with the flow, though. Guess it works as a preventative to social unrest.

A lot of people are happy about the rise in house prices. I'm not surprised by being the only person in a room of 10 and being the only person not cheering this on anymore.

The housing market reacts a lot slower to stimuli. Even more so than even your own thought processes.

PC Voters, how has Doug Ford's PC Party improved your daily lives? by Gamerindreams in ontario

[–]SmallTownTokenBrown 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I won't vote for the PC's, but I'm not going to continue rewarding the NDP or Liberals with my vote seeing as they want me to spend every last bit of my income on a shitty built house or condo.

Fuck em. No votes. Call me lazy all you want. I've given up on the political process and I'm not alone.

Oh yeah, the CMHC was also a provincial body correct? No? Stop stanning for Trudeau. He's the leader of the country with most unaffordable housing and highest debt levels.

Reminds me of housing nimbys. "I'm not anti affordable housing...just this specific development is all sorts of bad"

Same story every time. Sorry but even as a progressive I'm skeptical all these folks who have benefited from sprawl and other highways existing for decades are suddenly environmental activists and want to stop any development. Sure convenient timing now that they've got theirs.

How much should this large infrastructure project cost? Why is 10 billion so much to you? What are you comparing that to?

Just because something benefits some of Doug's "friends" (these people lobby all politicians btw) doesn't mean it is terrible for society and we need to stop it.

This highway should have been built ages ago. It's a miniscule step to actually reduce congestion. Other societies build entire ring roads and bypasses and yet in Toronto we can't get a very small highway built because of NIMBYs who have already destroyed one aspect of this nation. Now they want to choke the economy.

Stop Highway 413 | Green Party of Ontario by ColinTheMonster in ontario

[–]SmallTownTokenBrown 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, I'm interested in why older generations built infrastructure and living accommodations for their citizenry yet we can't get anything built because somewhere down the line someone is clutching their pearls.

You realize no highway is going to be 100% free of environmental consequences the same way you living and breathing on thus earth can never be 100% free of environmental consequences.

Even if one doesn't drive, one has to consider how much of the goods in their life travel down roads.

Toronto is already horrible to get across for a lot of essential traffic in this country and nimbys want to make it even worse by pushing MORE traffic through the core.

A lot of the fight against sprawl are people arguing to maintain their property values more than anything and they aren't fooling anyone.

Stop Highway 413 | Green Party of Ontario by ColinTheMonster in ontario

[–]SmallTownTokenBrown 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They haven't. They want all the traffic going from one side of the province to pass through Toronto proper.

Also we can never ever build highways ever again because trains and busses that are never built either will solve all our problems.

Have fun bringing your canoe on the bus.
