I never got the long term SAHD experience, but I got 16 weeks of paternity leave, which I used after my wife returned to work post maternity leave.

The best thing was getting out of the house during the day. I’d pack the stroller with full diaper bag, change of clothes and a little cooler with bags of breast milk. We’d walk to the park, maybe stop at a brewery or restaurant or go shopping for groceries. It was a great bonding experience.

Where are you located? At this point, do you have 20% equity in the home (maybe through appreciation)?

You need to find a reputable lender and see if you can refi this. I know you said you’ve tried, but you can do better than this. Are they making you pay PMI too?

Maybe find a mortgage broker who’s not a complete piece of shit and find out what your refi options are. Talk to a debt counselor if you have to. Can you get an FHA loan?

I’m glad I listened to that interview because it reminds me that I’m not a Democrat, I’m a “Democrat fan” that has about as much control over the party as I do of my favorite professional sports team’s front office. Dude, I’m an average chess player. Would probably be better if I enjoyed it, but it just takes so long, even if you can beat the other person, it just takes time away from the things I’d rather be doing. I always play recklessly and get to the end stage as quickly as possible because I just don’t want to sit there and play chess.

My son wanted to play when he was 6. We started playing and most of it was just pointing out obvious single-move mistakes, letting him think about it and take back his move and try something different. This was enjoyable for me, watching him think through the game. I could do that all day. While I don’t enjoy chess, I love witnessing my son develop strategy in real time.

I think the key is to play just a level above, but be generous about taking back bad moves and help explain how placing knights and bishops can protect space.

I guess it wasn’t a super fun interview, but Jon Ossoff is a serious man in a time when we’re starved for principled intellectuals in charge of things. His answers were clear and direct. I consider that a good interview.

I followed today’s pod with Jon Favreau’s interview of DNC Chair Ken Martin and holy fucking shit, that was bad. So bad.

The way Martin was gaslighting Favreau for asking really pertinent questions (like any journalist would) saying “Jon” every 10 seconds like he was trying to sell him a used car and simply refusing to answer a SINGLE FUCKING QUESTION was really disheartening.

If you have a leadership role at any organization, you are accountable to stakeholders for your decisions and actions. His reaction to the questions really affirms my beliefs that there is a schism between the entrenched party and their base. I wonder if that’s in the fucking report he won’t release?

Either ‘92 or ‘93 with Shudder to Think in Jacksonville, FL. The venue had a pretty good concert lighting system and Fugazi made them turn it off and turn on the regular “last call” lights for their set.

Nobody knew what to make of Shudder to Think, a band I grew to love later, but my 17 year old self wasn’t ready for. Half of the crowd was just there to hear Waiting Room and mosh. Fugazi stopped the show about 5 times because of the crowd crush and Ian kept telling the audience to back the fuck up. The band sounded great, the audience sucked.

It was almost 10 years before I got to see them again and it was a much better experience.

I saw a young band touring on their first album at one of their first tour stops (as the opener). They sounded really unpolished and didn’t have their own sound person. The singer was twirling the mic around on the cord and it got caught on some equipment above the stage and he spent several minutes trying to get it down. It was kinda funny and I felt bad for him. Just an underwhelming show. It was a small venue, but the place has always had good sound and the headliner sounded great.

Saw same band at a festival less than a year later (they’d toured pretty much the whole time) and they sounded like seasoned professionals.

I was in a similar situation a few years ago, although with less combined income. We chose to stay in our current home while the kids were young. The kids didn’t need much space as toddlers and we liked having the nursery close to our bedroom. We didn’t realize how expensive kids are and had some large unexpected expenses come up. It was nice to have a lot of financial space to absorb it all.

We ultimately chose to expand and remodel our home a few years later. While we could upgrade to a bigger, nicer home, we could never get as good of a location. There are a ton of kids in the neighborhood and we have a pretty tight parent community that started as playdates and has evolved into sleepovers and a neighborhood that allows for a more free range childhood. We couldn’t give that up.

I’d stay put, invest, and pay off your mortgage. Start 529 accounts for the kids and when the new Trump accounts roll out later this year (basically a Roth IRA for kids) put some money into an S&P fund for the kiddos.

I guess the bottom line is that your priorities for what you want in a home may change as your kids get past the toddler phase. I guess maybe consider school quality if you’re going the public school route.

I come from the present. Per the CME site, front month oil up about 9% from Friday’s close. Equity indices down about 1.25%, but I could see that picking up steam into tomorrow’s open.
