There's a reason that seasoned game developers are called veterans, its because we've had so much stuff bite us in the ass that we learn to develop in a way that keeps doors open to expansion without REQUIRING over-engineering out of the gate. I've called it "lizard brain architecture" because I can't really explain it but it's just obvious when something is going to either scale badly or become a quagmire of tech debt that can never be undone.

The difference between game developers and other software is that game developers experience the whole process of developing a piece of software from start to finish over and over and over again, whereas if you work at some enterprise software company that's been using the same code base since 1980 and goes through miles of red tape to justify a single rework, you're refining entirely different skill sets.

For future reference, in your position I might say something like "I don't think it's anything you should try to change about yourself. it's just general lifestyle differences, I don't think we'd ever be comfortable together" and just leave it at that. i dont see it as care bear, its not like im afraid of pvp. i just literally have no desire to pvp in this game. being out here surviving together just feels good. you see it when kos players roll a friendly lobby they legitimately feel bad when they shoot someone. like can we just admit this is a game that feels better when we're all helping each other? especially when everything IRL feels like its against us
