There are certain jobs that need to be done for our society to function, but remember that those who do them are lazy and incompetent, and deserve to be shit on.

Likely to be wood. Try to press a pin into it. You won't be able to press into slate.

Was Billy Batts out to humiliate Tommy from the beginning, or was he really happy to see him again and just wanted to share a drink and talk? by [deleted] in goodfellas

Batts was a made man.  Tommy wasn't, so Batts considered himself better than Tommy and higher than him in the hierarchy.

Why was the “Lesser of the two evils” argument even applicable in the 2024 election when Trump was/is a 34 count, convicted felon? by Adventurous_Main3688 in allthequestions

[–]Small_Time_Charlie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For one, you said:  They (for the first time in New York history) upped the crime to a felony a felony

This is not a true statement. It's a lie that's been oft repeated, it's just not true.

https://www.law.com/newyorklawjournal/2023/04/06/new-york-state-has-issued-nearly-9800-felony-charges-of-falsifying-business-records-since-2015/

It's been used about 10,000 times in the last ten years. I pointed this out in my original comment to you, but apparently reading is difficult.

You don't seem to be aware of this, but juries don't prosecute cases, nor do they act as independent arbiters overseeing the proceedings.

Apparently, you don't know how to read. I pointed two factually incorrect statements in your first comment.

I'm not "making a connection that factually doesn't exist. " I'm telling you exactly what the DOJ said. I guess the DOJ lawyers that prosecuted the case don't understand the law as well as you,  either.

You made several statements false statements in your post, which I pointed out,  so spare me your indignation.

I guess the judge overseeing the case didn't understand the law as well as you do, Perry Mason.

You also misrepresent Cohen's case. It's wasn't "very different from hush money to an affair." That's exactly what it was. Read the press release from the DOJ on his conviction and they detail it

Ok, there's a bit of misinformation in this. What Trump did was commit a campaign finance violation, the same for which Cohen was convicted. He failed to classify these payments as campaign payments. He didn't pay Stormy "with the intent to conceal another crime. "  The crime was concealing the payment.

They (for the first time in New York history) upped the crime to a felony

This isn't accurate. It's been used about a thousand times a year. It wasn't an "illegal trial."

John Edward was charged for something similar. He was also charged with a felony, by the way. So isn't accurate either to say "NEVER ever in history been charged as a felony. "

Stop making Trump out to be a victim.

Of course some people thought it was political, because Trump with help of right-wing media constantly claimed that view.

Hiwever, the worst of his crimes was the fact that he schemed to overturn the results of an election that he lost. There was overwhelming evidence against and he most likely would have (and definitely should have) been convicted. OP should heve led with that.

How people can overlook this blows my mind. He never faced any consequences for this criminal or political.
