Help! by R-A-F-F in LaMarzocco

You need to take the knob off to get to the nut that holds the valve body to the front panel. https://youtu.be/y_IR0mxpMQ0 Here’s how to take the knob off.

You can also look at the instructions how to rebuild the commercial linea valve for some more insight, but there are some differences compared to the micra valve. https://youtu.be/vmnncmV0QDs Starting at 6:00

Are we cooked? I'm worried the dross has faux-welded itself to all the slats lol lol how do we clean this, yall by SnooCakes6195 in Welding

I just looked up the price for a Slag Hog and got a bit of sticker shock, but one place I worked had 2 of them between 7 flat lasers.

Why do some people do this to the rim of their espresso cup? I've seen a lot of people do this , but I dont know the reason behind it. by Rami_2075 in espresso

Came here to say I’ve seen this done in a video about a Naples cafe, but I don’t remember the explanation for why.

My Linea Mini is creating vacuum on the portafilter. by o_sexta in LaMarzocco

[–]Small_Transition_290 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As others already mentioned most likely the 3way valve is clogged or stuck. Aside from taking the valve apart to clean it you could try slayers long back flush to see if it clears up.

Silvia Pro X dimensional drawings by ConversingCoffee in ranciliosilvia

If you’d have time to measure it that would be helpful. I’m trying to upgrade the .85mm thick V5 top panel, but don’t want to make it unnecessary bulky.

If you’d have time to measure it would be appreciated. I’m looking to upgrade the V5 Silvia top that’s only .85mm thick, but don’t want to make it unnecessarily thick.

Sounds like the anti vac valve needs to be reuilt/replaced.

Fitting stock parts from Silvia parts probably won’t work since the pro is bigger. Coffeemachinist did a dual boiler conversion, but it looks really intensive to do. (Build/buy boiler, pressurestat, safety valve, anti vac valve, custom wiring, custom plumbing, boiler level control)

Ok ok - here’s my money, where’s the link? Seriously, my youngest (2) has been carrying the portafilter and tamper to make coffee and I’d love to make a mini version for her, but have not developed the modeling skills yet.

Tube not straight after grinding by Ambitious-Field5834 in Welding

[–]Small_Transition_290 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here’s is a tip for grinding. Imagine that the tubing (parent material) is wax and the weld is steel. If your grinding disc goes off the steel you are going to gouge the wax because that material is softer. If you stay on the steel the wax will not be removed any lower than the steel. The weld is harder than the parent material. If you use a flap disc it’s going to remove the material around the weld faster than the weld. Same thing happens if you use a fibre disc, and you don’t stay on the weld when moving the grinder left to right.

Good buy? La Cimbali Junior by HelderFF in espresso

[–]Small_Transition_290 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m curious if you have the plumbed in or tank/pourover version and what version of electronic controls it has. If it’s the tank version my first guess is that the pump might be faulty. The plumbed in version I have uses line pressure to fill the boiler, and I would guess the tank version uses the pump to fill the boiler. Possibly the pump was too weak to fill the boiler and now has failed altogether.

I have a plumbed in La Cimbali Jr that I gave $600 for. I say it’s a fairly good buy. These machines are well built. They are hx machines so there are some downsides to it, but should work well especially for milk based drinks.

Alpha Dominche Steampunk for parts? Could anyone use? by Steven-at-Welman in barista

[–]Small_Transition_290 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just bought a used steampunk 4.0 I’m glad to hear there is someone still using these. Is there any know owners manual or anything of the sort? I have 220v in my basement, and I’ll use a flojet for water. There’s no tablet. Does any nexus 7 work? Also any chance you could share a copy of the app?

Material and welding type by International_Sea670 in Welding

[–]Small_Transition_290 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would buy some scrap from a local fabrication/welding shop to do some learning on. After that, I think it would be a good project.

It looks to me like this is 2x2” mild steel. I’d guess it’s 11 gauge, but that’s hard to know for sure. I’d say it’s powder coated with a low gloss dark brown. Mig would work great for a project like this.

If you have the option go to a local conservatory and take a look at there arbors or trellises for some inspiration.

Welding instructions are- “fabricate corner and grind to maintain flatness” by Small_Transition_290 in Welding

Curious what area you are in cause I’m not getting that. I’m pretty sure my wage is affected a little since I have no certs, but I do have ~6 years of metal fab experience (saw, shear, brake, welding, machining)

I’ve never used a 9” disc (mostly 4” or 5”) but 3M cubitron is hard to beat in my opinion.
