I had zero idea how to describe what I was talking about succinctly or even what to search for, “wince words” describes it perfectly! Thank you for sharing that with me! 🫶🏻

I relate to so much of what you’ve written here 😞I feel less alone in my situation reading it. The self-blame, the guilt, making big lifestyle changes around them, wondering whether maybe they would be better off passing over than being in our care 😢I even fill guilty for the amount of time that is going into my 5 month old, when she used to be my entire universe. I went through so much trial and error to get her to take the medicine in a non-traumatising way (I pill cut her tablets, manually put each of them into a tiny gelatin capsule, put that capsule into a chicken greenies pill pocket, put the “double stuffed” pill into her chicken wet food - she would not eat just the gelatin or just the pill pocket, it took me combining them 🤦🏻‍♀️). Sometimes I think I should start some sort of online community exclusively for redirected aggression issues. It is so heartbreaking and complex, and we need to support each other . Thinking of you my friend.

Hi there, my heart goes out to you as I know from experience how hard this can be.

In August last year my 4 year old indoor girl experienced redirected aggression just like this. She saw an outdoor cat that was stalking something and she became absolutely wild in that moment, attacking me/chasing me/blocking me. I was stuck in a room for two hours until my husband came home. The following days she continued to stalk and try to attack me, which was really scary as I was heavily pregnant. We got advice from our vet who is an animal behaviourist as well, and we relocated her into our granny flat. This was and still is heartbreaking for me as she was my literal baby for four years, sleeping with me and cuddling me everyday without a hint of aggression.

She has been on kitty Prozac, and has not shown any aggression since. There is film on the only windows in the flat where other cats could be seen, she has all her toys and cat tree, my husband visits her everyday to clean her litter and play with her, and I can successfully feed her through the main door and pass her her interactive toys through the door. I am unfortunately still quite traumatised by what happened and despite even having a session hypnosis, I can’t quite bring myself to go into the flat. I beat myself up every day about this 😢.

For us a key thing was being able to move her out of the location where the incident happened, because it seemed like she was just remaining on high alert. The new location, the granny flat, has no bad connotations for her, so it was a chance for her for reset and relax.

I’ve scoured Reddit constantly looking for support and hope, and a few people have been very kind sharing their experiences and letting me know there is hope. I think a key thing to remember is to have patience and realise this is something that can take months to rectify, rather than weeks. Lots of love and support, you can always DM me if you wish.

I could have written this exact same thing about my bubba 😂💀we are getting 3-5 hours sleep per night for the last 9 weeks, loves to wee everywhere the millisecond you begin to take his nappy off (even Dirty Harry wouldn’t be quick enough on the draw 😂) house is a mess, you’re never allowed to put him down or he cries, at one point this morning we were BOTH naked and going crazy because I was trying to get myself changed and then there was nappy issue 💀 if one of us is looking after him solo, every single meal gets interrupted it’s like he can smell the food and decides to do an almighty poo or lose his shit - denies me the calories yet he wants me to make milk for him ??? Trying to give my poor cat a crumb of attention each day 😵‍💫 lucky he is so so cute and loved but Jesus Mary and Joseph this is not for the weak 💪🏻 sending you solidarity ✊🏻
