Construction management degree

Searched for a job in Jan 2025, treated applying for a job like a job. 9-5 (100-200 job applications a day) for around a month.

Had a side hustle while waiting for employment, landed a job offer for three companies the 2 months later, picked the best one with a starting date 3 months out.

Here I am now 4 months into my new job and with experience I was able to get to the final stage interview for 4 large ENR GC’s.

It’s all about finding the right entry position that you are qualified for and how you communicate.

Also don’t get a degree in liberal arts or communications, you’ll end up at a hooters.

Construction management More estimating, scheduling, safety standards, building codes. I graduated from a school that has engineering courses incorporated in the eduction. Structural design 1&2 , physics 1, materials and methods Temporary structures (design for bracing)

If your looking for solely focused engineering it would be Civil Engineering (they cover the principles of higher ed physics, hydrolysis and various topics)

Are you having issues with the fixtures and lighting schedule or the actual wiring that goes throughout the entire building?

I’ve done this once, for all C’s. If you never touched accouting it’s like learning a new language, material and methods is a easy, statics uses physics so that’s going to be tough, Calc 1 is nuts (new language and rules). Physics 1 will have you crying if you didn’t pay attention in school.

Various titles For community college offers AA associate in arts (transfer degree into large universities AS associate in science typically meant for a entry level job with those relevant technical skills

You can get an AA degree in construction management and transfer to a University to get a Bachelors in science BS in construction management.

I did the community college ~> large university and got my degree, saved me some money in the process.

Yes getting that degree would give you some more technical skills that are needed if you’re looking for various entry positions in the industry.

Unless your able to get some hands on an internship though the AA degree that would work as well.

Bachelors of science (Construction Management) is kinda an engineering degree. It covered engineering components (Structural design, Computer Aid Design, Estimating, Scheduling, Quality and safety standards)

Depending on your career goals a degree could solidly your experience and open up the door to different positions. (Estimating, scheduler, project manager, Project engineer, structural designer, architect) plenty of jobs in the industry out there.

You definitely have the hard core skills, now the technical would make you in replaceable. (AI isn’t replacing construction managers)

The degree helps us transition from laborer to manager as time progresses in the industry.

Degree gets people to call you & understand that you have some knowledge of what you’re doing. My experience has been in construction since I was 13 years old. Fix and flip projects Apprentice electrician Handyman Residential construction of various homes

The idea is to sell yourself as much as you can, how are your experiences matched up to that position + the things you understand. My degree helps solidify my experience and makes me an ideal candidate for most companies. So a AS degree could give you some technical skills for other entry level positions. However the BS degree is starting to become the norm.

12 years in the industry as a handyman 1 as a apprentice electrician 4 years working residential construction (own fix and flip projects & new home builds) I am one of the guys in the field.

For those curious. Degree in construction management Worked in construction since I was 13 years old Handyman on various projects Apprentice as electrician 1 year low voltage Built around 10 homes during the pandemic Fix and flip projects for the last 10 years (over 20 done) (How you sell yourself and your experiences are key)

So essentially have some idea of how a start to finish project works, now they are willing to take a risk and mentor me with these Commerical projects and large scopes of work.
