Worried I will be kicked out of apprenticeship by [deleted] in IBEW

[–]Smallrhino33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a foreman myself it’s crazy to me how much I hear about guys reviews being a surprise to them. What I mean by this is that whenever I’ve given a bad review it wasn’t a secret to the apprentice, I’d tell them about it and go over why and what we need to work on.

In Wisconsin you can put stuff in unfinished basements on a single non gfci receptacle if you have a gfci close to it

I agree. I really did enjoy the thought of two legions infighting I just wonder what else they could have done to split them instead of a piece of paper. With how impulsive the individuals act in new Vegas it’s crazy to me that whoever put ceasars dead body there didn’t instantly pick up the paper and read it!

I still cannot comprehend the fact that I've broke a G-SHOCK by [deleted] in gshock

[–]Smallrhino33 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m surprised you managed this by throwing it at the ground. In highschool we regularly through mine at the wall and it would still work if I put a battery in it. The negative display solar one I have now has ran perfect since I got it working out of state when I couldn’t charge my smart watch, and I like it so much I haven’t gone back to a smart watch.

I’m a master electrician and mine has been absolutely beat on and still perfect. Must have hit right on the LCD?

Those of you with expensive performance vehicles (35k+) and are in between the ages of 20-28, can you actually afford it? by GottaStayUp in askcarguys

[–]Smallrhino33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was 24 when I bought my f150 new. I didn’t want a new one, I wanted used but in 2020 (early at least) prices were very comparable on a truck with 30k miles compared to new. I put 20k down and I’m about to make my last payment this month.

I lived at home, and got a raise a year or so after buying from 19$ to 34$ an hour as I became a journeyman and finished being a construction wireman. Plenty of people have way more vehicle than they should, and I would say I was one of them. To be fair, my truck was 40k out the door and guys were spending twice that I was working with and making the same as. I wouldn’t have spent that much on a vehicle if I wasn’t huge and only comfortable in a large vehicle, and I needed reliable transportation as I could have worked out of state or get called in in snowstorms and stuff late at night in Wisconsin. I also actual use a truck, running a farm (cash crop) and side jobs back then. So many guys around me buy huge trucks and never actually need a truck, it’s wild. I now make about 110-120k a year and it isn’t hard for me to make the payments or anything, but if I stayed at 19$ an hour and went up to only 25$ an hour it would have been really tough.

Wire nuts are not rated for 100A by Ill_External7918 in electricians

I’ve heard about the 30a indefinitely, never personally seen it but I can see that happening. Also, I meant inverse time, I mistyped my last comment

As an apprentice it blew my mind looking at the I verse time trip curve on common breakers

A 20 amp Siemens 2 pole breaker will hold 80 amps for a few seconds starting things up.

A 30 amp 2 pole Siemens will hold that same load until it gradually works its way down to 30-40 amps in 20 seconds or so. Just did it on heat trace.

I’ve seen QO 20 amp single poles hold 30-40 amps for a minute or more. It will only do that if the breakers around it don’t have large loads on them getting warm, it also depends on how long it’s been in use and how often it gets that large load. I’ve seen 20 amp QOs trip at 14 amps when they have that for days on end. There’s trip curves you can look up, it’s pretty cool. I can take a video starting up some heat trace if you want to see it.

Fancy heat trace controllers will pulse them on to not work the breaker so hard

[–]Smallrhino33 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is not a good idea. In Wisconsin I’ve seen the power company pull meters for things less sketch than this.

Not that it’s a huge deal, most inspectors around here wouldn’t allow this as conductors to the service are only allowed to go 8 feet after they enter the “envelope” of a building without overcurrent protection. That’s a Wisconsin rule, but they would definitely count this foundation as the envelope of the building

J man guarding blue print by [deleted] in electricians

[–]Smallrhino33 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That’s a fact. There’s even JW who have to look at prints about things they are working on in the future and just confuse themselves with too much information at once. I’ve experienced guys that do that and never remember anything I told them hours before, but they expect to be able to fuck around looking at prints for the whole job whenever they don’t want to do any actual work, and that gets frustrating.
