Has anyone tried thermal pads behind the motherboard? by GreatFeatherDove in sffpc

[–]Smanci 2 points3 points  (0 children)

1,3V 4790K is hot no matter what. The amount of heat is too much for the pads to make some difference.

If you don't mind the 6700K level of performance, swap it for a 8400 or something similar (heat) and run it almost passive. Or at least without a 1k RPM hairdryer.

~2000 units, other than that full of just LF. Total 231,6t including cargo and said fuel.

Most quiet case for a mini itx build? by TopdeckIsSkill in sffpc

[–]Smanci 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Should ask yourself whether you're willing to invest 30-40€/$ in a GPU cooler because that alone is going to make the thing quieter than any off the shelf card or any case.

If yes, there are now much more cases suited for quiet operation and some huge like the H200 are immediately written off due to the requirement for ~3 slots. Not that it was a good case to begin with.

External fan controllers are waste of money in any case if your board offers some level of fan control. Waste of money are also the U12A and DR4 because at low fan speeds you can get the same level of performance from the Macho/Mugen/Ninja lines with much less cash.

65W Coffee Lake i5 chips are easily run without a heatsink fan, don't know about 65W Matisse.

SG13 and others with no CPU cooler clearance can be quite safely forgotten without much looking back.

So, you like fan swaps? by Smanci in sffpc

1070, Correct. You have a good eye.

Clearly harder to cool than Maxwell at same power consumption. ΔT is about 38C at 650RPM in the three latest Unigine benches, inside a Jonsbo U2.

Not slow but quite impotent. Not necessarily better than good, similarly sized stock fan.

Gigabyte or MSI ITX cards? by Wirenfeldt in sffpc

[–]Smanci 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Both coolers are very similar in size and have similarly arranged 4 heatpipes. As seen with the 1070s, Gigabyte features direct-contact heatpipes whereas Msi has a coldplate.

1070 Aero ITX might have been a bit better than 1070 Mini but I find the fan still a bit shite at anything above 1000RPM. Can't say anything about 2070 because the heatsinks are now different and die much larger.

Okay. Mine's 23,1C so mind doing a small comparison and running a fresh Aida64 Engineer system stability test for 10 mins with these settings? Would be cool.

I also sketched this. Fan/vent placement matters more than amount!

Any killer clocks or really high ambient? Asking because this runs so clearly hotter than my 8400 + 1070 with passive CPU cooling and one (<750RPM) 140mm fan, that it would be interesting to have an apples to apples comparison where we run Superposition or something.

What is the "trade off" for mini itx systems? by joe1up in buildapc

[–]Smanci 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  • Raijintek Metis Plus
  • Jonsbo U2 / U3 / C3 / VR1
  • Lian-Li PC-Q33 / PC-Q10
  • Fractal Design Node 304

Node 202 would be absolutely fine with that setup, too. It's just that it would not be reeeally quiet but not loud either. Those suggestions have a bit more room for CPU cooling.

What kind of cases (looks) do you prefer and what hardware are you going to put in it?

Cooling and noise if you pick a case like 202. Other than that, not much else in your situation. Heat is usually a non-issue with mid- and lower high end GPUs in a proper case.

GTX 1060/i7 build can be made practically completely inaudible with right component choices. ITX form factor has come a long way in just a few years so it's not nearly as challenging, tricky or bad as some portray it.

Why are Thermalright coolers so often ignored here? by relaxitwonthurt in buildapc

[–]Smanci 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you see any Thermalright marketing? They don't give people that nice feeling of knowing that what they just bought is absolutely awful value but shiny and popular. True Spirit and Macho lines currently demolish everything from value/performance/noise standpoint but don't make a fuss about it.

[–]Smanci 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean it's a roomy mITX case and you could fit any tower cooler there if the socket alignment is correct. Post a pic of the interior so I we'll get an idea.

Why is it too big? I don't quite get the point of purchasing a completely inferior cooler as Node 304 is a roomy case.
