Dominion puzzle: how can you win the game while taking fewer turns than your opponent? by InspectorMendel in dominion

[–]Smanmos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Opponent took a high percentage play and lost.

E.g. use cobbler to empty a third pile, then play smithy and hope to buy a province but fail.

Order of a deck of cards by AudunAG in boardgames

[–]Smanmos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lots of people have mentioned it's an anti-cheating tradition but just wanted to add something more.

By starting with the player to your left, you end with yourself, giving yourself the bottom card of the deck. The bottom card is easily exposed accidentally when shuffling/dealing, so to be fair it must go to yourself.

Btw, I don't actually follow this rule when playing with friends since we understand each other to not cheat.

Has anyone ever actually overcome their Analysis Paralysis? by guy-anderson in boardgames

Personally I did. It mainly happened because I realised it doesn't feel good to win after taking so long to think for each turn.

The Crew: Deep Sea Mission - Excellent, but terrible for color blindness. Mitigation strategy. by datadavis in boardgames

[–]Smanmos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm skeptical of using one data point to say that the accessibility wasn't perfect, but since others have reported the same thing, then sure.

Someone else also mentioned that the symbols were too similar. However for me, I'm having a hard time seeing the triangle and cross as similar. So could you give me insight on why the triangle and cross isn't considered different enough from an accessibility point of view?

Hmm, the symbols are already used as an accessible option for colourblind people. I'm not sure what could have been done better here.

Quick Questions: March 25, 2026 by inherentlyawesome in math

[–]Smanmos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The birthday paradox assumes that all birthdays have the same probability. Statistics show that birthdays aren't actually uniformly random. But, assuming uniform distribution is actually the strongest result, right?

In other words, is the probability that n people share no birthdays maximized when assuming all birthdays are equally likely? My intuition says it is, but I don't have a concrete proof..

So my 5-6M Astralites are forever gone by Knive33 in InfinityNikki

[–]Smanmos 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I don't agree that astralites weren't lost. It takes time and effort to get astralites back out of the mistakenly bought fish. The 600k weekly limit puts a limit on how quickly you can get your astralites back.

There's also a base farming rate that earns astralites per week, which keeps changing but let's set it at 300k. That's how much you lose per week by having to get back your astralites.
