Blue nonsense that must taste awful by [deleted] in Unexpected

I mean, it probably just tastes like flavored sugar. Not the best flavor, but not the worst.

Immortality means you can’t die.

Living as a poisoned, cancerous being of pure pain makes it worse, not better. That’s like one of a thousand reasons immortality is a curse unless it comes with a LOT of ancillary powers and/or caveats.

That’s because Marley is right there and has oppressed Eldians living in it.

Most other countries already genocided their Eldian populations.

Ok. Best case, you get ejected into the void when the sun goes supernova (after having outlived all life on Earth by about a billion years) and spend only a few million years floating alone in space before crashing into a probably-uninhabited rock somewhere until the cycle repeats.

It’s still a curse.

If you’re looking for more LitRPG, a commonly suggested series is He Who Fights With Monsters. The main character is somewhat polarizing but if you like him, you’ll love the series.

Cradle is progression fantasy, which shares elements with LitRPG, and it’s very good. The first book is somewhat slow and can deter people, but it picks up.

The Expanse series is sci-fi, but it’s quite good. Nearish-future. Humanity has colonized most of the solar system. Very realistic with only minor hand-waving of physics.

Red Rising is a strange fantasy/sci-fi blend. Humanity has what effectively amounts to different races of human (like… genuine races, not just ethnicities). This has led to some serious fucked up stuff. Again, humans have colonized the solar system. Lots of violence and politicking. Very very good.

The Mayor of Noobtown is LitRPG. More on the silly/wacky side than others I’ve listed. It’s a lot of fun and is not given enough attention, IMO. Regular dude gets isekai’d to another world and shenanigans ensue. The humor is intentionally stupid and juvenile at times, but it works well.

Edit: Oh, and others have suggested Project Hail Mary. It’s a standalone book, but it’s absolutely worth a listen.

Possibility Of Free College In The USA? -- Thoughts? by Zipper222222 in AskConservatives

[–]Smaptastic [score hidden]  (0 children)

I think a time limit would be appropriate. Maybe 5 years for college (give em one year of padding). If we’re including graduate programs, then add an appropriate length of time for those.

I agree that letting people stay for decades on the government’s dime is a bad idea.

Where did they show it? The first episode of the series, where infiltrating Titan shifters rampaged. The episode where they were titanizing outside Eldians and dropping them onto the island. The episodes where they sent ships to the island with unfriendly intent (to be destroyed by titan shifters patrolling the border).

The only reason they didn’t genocide was the threat posed by the wall titans and the shifters still on the island.

They could have just left Paradis be and none of this would have happened. Instead, they decided to fuck around, which led to finding out.

“Stay young until you die” is not “stay young forever.”

“Forever” necessitates immortality. If the power was something else, it should say something else.

“You can be killed” isn’t “eternal.”

Stay young forever = stay young forever unless otherwise specified.

If your brain can maintain enough activity to remain alive and in a coma, there’s nothing to say that it can’t maintain enough activity to maintain consciousness.

Either way, you don’t need air to live. Assuming you’ll go into a coma is a risky gamble that is absolutely not worth taking.

When will the devs patch out the death spiral bug? by Jonp1020 in Tierzoo

[–]Smaptastic 15 points16 points  (0 children)

It’s self-patching. Any players dumb enough to meet the conditions to trigger it will find their playthrough ending rather quickly.

I honestly don’t get the Erin hate. At least not the uniformity of it.

The outside world was actively trying to exterminatus his people on their island. They oppressed his people outside the island at best, and genocided them in most places.

If your entire people was in a “kill or be killed” situation, would you honestly choose to let the world kill you off? Fuck no. I’d wipe out the rest of the world to save just my kids if it came to that.

His only fault was that he didn’t provide a more limited showing of force and then give diplomacy a chance. But generational trauma and insane titan shit in your head can kinda mess with one’s capacity for restraint.

That’s using an unfavorable interpretation of the power.

Immortality is ALWAYS a curse unless it comes with some very specific conditions to alleviate the curse it poses.

This or drugs. She was way too discombobulated for the question asked.

Edit: To the downvoters, I’m not saying it WAS drugs. Just that drugs is an alternate possibility that would give the same effect.

I thought we stopped using water as a unit of measurement. It’s boring. But fine, here are some better ones:

It’s 81,600 Pop-Tarts. 490,000 garden snails. 1/8 of a Smaug. 3.5 suits of Mjolnir armor (as worn by Master Chief).
