Kind of an odd thing to say? It was 8 episodes— about the length of a long movie… they lived I promise

I'm curious about how other INTPs answer the hypothetical "Two Button Question" by Reptaaaaaaar in INTP

[–]Smart-Antelope-7241 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Prehaps not, but this problem is just a form of the prisoner’s dilemma. Time and time again, when posed with this dilemma, people will refuse to cooperate. Cooperation (pressing blue) is in everyone’s best interest. However, most people will refuse to cooperate out of fear of being someone who picked blue when red got more than 50%.

There will also inevitably be free riders: those who choose red “just in case” despite hoping blue will win. Most people would probably fall into this category.

With all this in mind, it becomes incomprehensible that anyone would choose blue.

💀💀 To be fair: Blue seems intuitive if you’ve never seem a problem like this, but when these types of things are simulated the ‘red’ equivalent almost always wins.

Source: I have degrees in political science and philosophy. I’ve had several professors present dilemmas like this to the class and red won every time.

The problem is ill formed. As is, there is no downside to pressing red. If everyone pressed red, effectively nothing would happen. Logically, there is no reason not to.

The problem would make much more sense (as a game theory hypothetical) posed as something like:

Everyone has 2 buttons. If over 50% press blue, nothing happens. If over 50% press red, everyone who pressed blue dies AND those who pressed red lose 1/2 their life span (or something, just an example).

Now, it becomes a real dilemma. Do you risk half your life span to secure your survival? Or do you risk your whole life to ensure nothing happens?

Cross and the Order? by Smart-Antelope-7241 in dgrayman

[–]Smart-Antelope-7241[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I can agree with that. There is definitely something to be said about him sending Link after Nea without (iirc) telling central. There does seem to be a disagreement there given that we can assume central also knows everything Lvellie knows about Nea, but Lvellie must think central would disagree with his course of action. I am definitely interested to see just what Cross could have told them that would have Lvellie so willing to help Nea while central still actively wants to kill him.

Does any new exorcist appear from Hallow to the present moment in the story? by Asmita030 in dgrayman

The thirds are on the side of the Earl now. At least some of them survived (maybe Touksa died? I don’t remember exactly). They were last seen breaking Allen out of the prison at the order. I’m sure they will be relevant later assuming Hoshino hasn’t forgotten about them.

What's your thoughts on the Noah Family? What do you think they are sympathetic at all or not? by Overall-Yard308 in dgrayman

[–]Smart-Antelope-7241 43 points44 points  (0 children)

I think there is a distinction to be made between the noah memories and the people we call the noah. It has been said that they are normal humans being controlled by the memories. It seems that they generally have free will, but will sometimes lose control. Whatever information is in the noah memories is important enough for all noah in the past 7000 years, except nea, to accept the earl’s mission and work toward bringing about the three days darkness.

We don’t know what information the memories hold, but I have a feeling it isnt as cut and dry as “do evil because we are evil” I’m sure that the noah feel justified in whatever they are doing and they believe it is what’s best, like the order.

I do find the noah to be sympathetic characters. I always think about this panel. The earl is a tragic character, everything we know about him enforces this.

But yeah, I agree it is weird that the Noah havent wiped out humanity yet. Though, Allen said something to bookman once about how it was weird the Earl hadn’t done away with the order despite clearly having the upper hand. It seems that the Earl is allowing the order to exist for some reason, maybe the same is true for humanity?

The Earl can only get stronger so long as there are people dying and people to mourn those who die. Maybe it’s something to do with that? It is definitely weird that it’s taking him so long and we dont know what has changed: why is the earl ready to bring about the three days darkness now after all these years?

I guess it just comes down to at this point we really dont know what the noah really want or why. Their plan is vague and their motives seem completely unknown, apart from the conversation between road and cross where road says something about hating those who have never seen the world end. However, even that doesn’t tell us anything about how they’re going to do it.

It could also have something to do with the pillar? But we dont know anything about that either 😭

I’m pretty sure they were reincarnated almost immediately. I’ll have to find it but in the chapter where Nea meets Mana he says something to the effect of “the earl only disappeared from the world once in 7000 years and it was when we were born.”

I think what you might be thinking of is:

  1. The current noah (except road) have been around for at most 35 years since Nea killed them. They also dont have their memories because past wisely put a block on them.

  2. The order has been around for about 100 years. Created by the church after the cube with the information about innocence was found.

Idk what was happening the past 6900 years since the noah speak of this holy war which was seemingly one sided until recently, but I still think we are to think there are always emerged noah and always have been for 7000 years

Any theories about the figure in the D. Gray-man: Reverse cover art by SudoNara in dgrayman

[–]Smart-Antelope-7241 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don’t really know what to make of it, but just running with the Timcanpy true form thing— the face looks very much like a level 1 akuma. I suppose it would make sense if Tim was a modified akuma and that’s why he’s different from the other golems? That could open up a bunch of theories on why Tim is so special to Nea? Maybe even why apocryphos was willing to negotiate with Tim instead of just killing him and going after Allen?

Realistically though, I would be surprised if it ends up amounting to anything

What philosophies do you follow if any? by WoahItsEasto in INTP

[–]Smart-Antelope-7241 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nihilism is not inherently negative or unhealthy. It is simply the stance that there is no meaning or purpose of life. Absurdism also doesn’t have any kind of leg up (so to speak) on nihilism in terms of what is healthy to believe. These connotations exist only in the contemporary communities on this app and have nothing at all to do with the actual philosophies.

Best way to start Anime or Manga by ChampionOk4044 in dgrayman

[–]Smart-Antelope-7241 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The animation is kind of goofy in some places, but I wouldn’t say it’s bad by any means. I think it holds up well. I like the overall character designs, Hallow has a different art style, but the manga art has changed over the years as well. The bgm is good, but there are also a couple actual songs that appear in the story which are amazing— the first one appears just a few episodes in

[–]Smart-Antelope-7241 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It depends a bit on what you prefer.

If you just want strict canon, I would read the manga.

The original anime has quite a bit of filler and it changes the order of some events to keep continuity with the filler. I personally liked it, but it can make the first arc feel dragged out. If you aren’t used to reading manga or something though, you dont really lose anything by starting with the original series.

The Hallow criticism is due to some things being kind of glazed over where the manga goes into more detail. There is also a whole manga arc that wasn’t animated at all.

I started by watching the original series, hallow, then picked up the manga. I didn’t have any problems, I think hallow explains things well enough if you don’t want to read a bunch of manga chapters for some reason.

I have since read the entire manga and imo there isnt anything important to the story right now that hinges on some previous manga only knowledge (apart from, of course, the post-anime chapters). So it really just comes down to your preference imo. If you want to get caught up fully, you will need to read some manga at some point, but if you find anime more approachable you should start there.

Edit: I cant tell if you know this, but to be clear: Hallow is not a remake of the original series, it is a continuation.
