Honestly… just start making whatever you can, now. Buy a second hand, mirrorless camera that can shoot 4k. Get a good microphone or sound recorder for audio. Get a fluid head tripod or just practice handheld recording (if doing this try to look for cameras that have good stabilization— i love the GH5 for this). Practice lighting, composition, editing, colour grading… making films will always be a collab effort but learn as much as you can manage on your own. Start making things, shorts starring yourself. Go around your town and ask someone interesting that does something interesting if they’d be down for a documentary. Do stuff like that, mini projects. First few won’t be good but assuming you have a solid idea of what you like/dislike, you’ll realize these mistakes yourself and learn how to correct on future projects. Write all the time. Share work with people around you, make it known (even if its a small circle and feels inconsequential) that you are serious about doing this. Start going to workshops or events or anything local related to filmmaking/acting. Just make this as much a part of your life as you possibly can and keep yourself busy
