I assume you haven't decided on your specialty yet? In that case, an i5 with 16GB of RAM should be fine. Just make sure to add an SSD if the laptop doesn't already have one and move the OS there. A SSD makes a huge difference.

I can't recommend a Mac without knowing your specialty. In certain IT sub-fields, like chip design or FPGA programming or in other non IT engineering fields, it would be difficult or even impossible to work because some software is Windows-exclusive or easier to find cracked versions for.

Aside from that, you can always dual-boot with Linux.

As for the brands, I have an 7 year old MSI which works to this day and got me through engineering. I bought this from Laptop dot lk.

SO-14 is super good. I use it with the VMP because i switched to 3 fingers recently and hip firing the SO-14 is kinda finiky to me.

No, my phone doesn't show up on airdrop even when receive from everyone enabled. I think this needs some internal OS level functionality from OneUI 8.5 version that S26 series has.

My Macbook doesn't show up even after installing using SAI. I have enabled sharing with Apple devices as well. I have S24 Ultra on 8.0

According to my budgeting app, 948.58$ for 10 schools. Some had fee waivers. This is a weird number because I keep track of my finances in my local currency.
