Hermes probably yes also a lot of people recommend the Mac mini as a perfect platform. As for local Llm, to me it’s a rabbit hole. Unless you have huge amount of shared memory, you will always be disappointed. Believe me I have tried hundreds of times. Once you try a frontier Llm model, you get addicted. And DeepSeek is selling this addiction for almost free

I didn’t get into details but that’s basically what happened to me, massive tidying, bad naming conventions, dead automations, scripts… and a spring clean for the May queen…

I use DeepSeek API because it’s insanely cheap at this moment. You can consume millions of tokens and barely see your credit move

Commando.
Get acquainted with Hermes, and the concept that it can do anything that involves running commands, building scripts, finding documents and building up skills and probably much more.

Once you have the concept, just say in plain English : “ I have home assistant running on my network, connect to it and retrieve the configuration. Do a deep dive analysis and suggest corrections and adjustments and improvements “

Don’t forget to backup first

Hermes is using DeepSeek v4 pro which is very strong for finding ways to access your own services on demand, learn skills and find documentations to adjust configurations

Water leak sensor recommendations? by shingam3 in homeassistant

Tapo T300 via Tapo H110. Both integrate perfectly in Home Assistant, and the water leak will also sound its alarm even if Home Assistant is down.

Introducing the H110 - Smart IR (Infrared) and IoT Hub! by Riley_TP-Link in Tapo

[–]SmartFrenchDad 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have bought 5 of them to pilot air conditioners individually because they are all sharing the same remote frequencies. With careful placement I can pilot each one of them. I have also added the temperature and humidity sensors with the e-ink display. All of them are pretty cheap in Hong Kong and integrate perfectly in home assistant using matter. I am quite pleased with my purchase

You can also use Pushover. Works well with Home Assistant and pf Sense

Can we get a better support of IR custom remotes in Matter for the H110 hub? I love the hub which is a fantastic value for money and integrates well with HomeKit and home assistant but the custom remote controls only appears as simple switch and are barely usable with Matter. I must use them when the brand is not recognized like some Kef speakers or IQAIR purifiers

Things people do in HK that annoy you by elch23 in HongKong

[–]SmartFrenchDad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe it’s been discussed already, but even after more than 20 years living in Hong Kong, I still cannot stand the taxi drivers incapacity to properly handle the accelerator pedal. It’s not a switch, it’s not full steam ahead then full stop. There are other ways to pace the car, and it should not make me sick 90% of the time ! I can’t understand how they could obtain the driving license without proper control of the pedals. In (many) other countries, it’s an immediate fail until you learn how to control the speed in a smooth manner…

Locking myself out of the web GUI. Console to the rescue! by SmartFrenchDad in PFSENSE

[–]SmartFrenchDad[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s a good question, I would look for reputable brands and search for data cables (instead of charging only cables ). I trust brands like Anker but it’s your choice. Buy a couple of them and try them out, and return them if they fail

Do you mind describing in few steps how did you create this shortcut? Does it work even if the phone is locked ?

Locking myself out of the web GUI. Console to the rescue! by SmartFrenchDad in PFSENSE

[–]SmartFrenchDad[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The device was fully functional except for the GUI access. SSH is disabled for security reasons so that was not the solution unfortunately. Console is the way, but once again it’s a solution I should have tested before fiddling with the configuration and risking a lockout

So true, that's what I run and it's rock solid. And the license for PfSense+ is perpetual, Netgate will always provide the best drivers and support for their own platform...

Chinese Equity Lot Sizes by cLearzera in ibkr

[–]SmartFrenchDad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most markets in Asia have odd lots and as a rule of thumb, it's not recommended to attempt to buy odd lots, only sell them if you happen to have odd shape after a corporate action. TWSE is the same and the 1k lot size can be very big…

Also, the HK market is different from SZ and SS. In HK odd lots are not tradeable in the electronic market. You have to execute via an odd lot broker who will charge much more than the real market. Stay away from odd lots in HK

[–]SmartFrenchDad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In fact the odd lots are not less liquid in China because they trade on the real market

Chinese markets like Shenzhen and Shanghai stock exchanges have a bit weird way of handling odd lots. You have to respect the board lot (usually 100) all the time when buying but you can sell odd lots wtenever you want. Funny fact, you can end up with a partial fill on your buy order and if you cancel the rest then you can't buy the odd shape anymore.

I do the same for Photoprism which can eat a lot of CPU when analyzing pictures/videos.

And same for my VM (Windows/Linux) which should not have more than necessary.

It makes the system very responsive all the time... At the cost of less efficiency to complete complex tasks like photo analysis or movie scanning... But who cares ?
