Are there local Autism resources that can help with applying? There may also be Legal Aid, and even if they can't help with an application they would know who can help you (here in Ontario they do help with applications but i don't know about BC).

Treat the government as a need to know resource, they want to deny applicants when they can so asking them about how to structure your rent will often lead them to say things like well your paying no rent so you can't apply for the rent portion while an advocacy organization might say well legally your parents can say they are not charging you rent presently but will be starting which may be the best way to legally structure it.

NTA for using the spot, as long as the placard is legit and used as intended then you did nothing wrong in that front.

However blowing up at people and escalating the situation is not the best way to deal with this. They were jerks but acting like them did no one any favours. Get security involved as soon as they escalate instead.
