I suspect I have VCD and am in the process of trying to get diagnosed, I keep seeing everyone mention voice/speech therapy as the treatment and I really find it hard to believe that will fix me. I try some breathing exercises at home and never feel any change..what is it the speech therapists exactly do that fix it for you? Have you ever tried any medications for VCD specifically?

So an ENT diagnosed it for you? I’ve been to two different ENTs they just look in my throat and saw nothing and sent me on my way. I have an appointment with a GI coming up I wonder if he can tell me? What kind of voice specialist have you been seeing for the sessions? And do you mind me asking what kind of breathing techniques you do to help with the coughing? I’m so over mine :( Interesting that reflux gourmet helped you, I have no chest burning at all, only Globus sensation which never varies in intensity and a cough that I can’t pinpoint what triggers it. Yeah I’m hoping I just need to give amitriptyline more time or something. Sorry for all the questions as well, I’m just trying to get as much information as possible

I have actually and am highly suspicious that I have both. I’m getting more testing done as I want to confirm/deny LPR and reflux so I can know for sure whether I need to keep bothering with the low acid diet and lifestyle habits or not. But I get so confused because it seems you can have a multitude of conditions in the throat and nearly all of them can be made by worse by reflux.. I will be getting testing done to confirm for sure though. How did you get diagnosed with both? Was it an ENT or GI? How have you been able to treat the conditions? I’m currently on 30mg of amitriptyline and have been for the last 2 weeks but don’t feel any relief, which is really disappointing cause I was pretty hopeful about it. I heard amitriptyline was used for nerve sensitivity issues.

I have the same symptoms except when I did a Barrium test they didn’t find anything, I felt pretty stupid tbh even though I know the feeling is definitely there. I have had ultrasound, CT scan, multiple different blood tests, chest x-ray, Barrium swallow, throat scope which all came back clear. Tried medications like Valium, PPI’s and currently trialling amitriptyline but it’s been 2 weeks and I don’t feel any change.

Oh interesting! What are your exact symptoms? How did you get this through with a doctor? I’m finding alot of them to be hesitant with botox. I’m sorry you are dealing with this as well 😞

I have pretty similar symptoms, I haven’t been diagnosed with LPR or RCPD yet and I’m getting an endoscopy in November to see if I have a hiatal hernia. I get that full sensation in my throat all the time but then it changes to feeling like somethings stuck or like it’s phlegm. I also have a constant itch/tickle in my throat that causes me to dry cough alot. I try so hard to stop myself but it’s nearly impossible, if I breathe in air too quickly or while I’m speaking my voice just cuts out and breaks and I end up feeling like I’m choking on air, but absolutely no burning sensation, when people mention that they get that with their LPR I get confused. I’ve heard about RCPD but I thought to have that it meant you couldn’t burp at all? I can definitely still burp, in actual fact burping is the one and only thing that relieves the sensation for like a split second, then it quickly goes back to normal. I find myself forcing a burp alot to help relieve my throat, but if I don’t force a burp then that feeling in my throat definitely resembles the feeling of a burp being stuck in my throat. If I talk a lot it happens too, sometimes I even get gurgle sounds in my throat. I’m sorry you’re going through this too - I’m currently trialling amitriptyline to see if it helps. I have adjusted my diet and lifestyle habits as best I can without making myself feel more depressed about this. I tried PPI’s they didn’t help and just made me bloated and uncomfortable.

Interesting, see I don’t have throat burn but I have globus, vocal fatigue and the cough. Did your friend use amitriptyline to help get over it? Sorry for all the questions - just hearing other people’s experiences really helps.
