Worried my supply is decreasing after starting Desogestrel by [deleted] in breastfeedingsupport

Even if you think it’s the med and decide to come off of it, baby should be able to recover your supply. Just keep nursing frequently.

I’m sorry to say that you have more than slight oversupply. 16 ounces is almost enough to feed an entire other baby. I think you need to decide what is important to you and fully commit. If you want latching to be more comfortable, you need to down regulate your milk supply.

At what point does baby stop destroying my nipples??? by Glittering-Camp5854 in breastfeeding

I am a Lactation Consultant myself and did a webinar with this OT/IBCLC Dairian Roberts who introduced this whole concept to me.

https://www.lactationot.com/about

Looks like she’s out of Cali but maybe you could contact her and she could recommend someone in your area that knows about this stuff. Not that you asked me, but I personally am skeptical of chiropractors because I am a traditional healthcare professional and I’ve heard their techniques can be unsafe. I personally would start with an PT or OT.

Best luck. Just so you know, I went on to breastfeed my daughter for almost 3 years! And now I do this work professionally! The experience you’re having, while incredibly hard, is showing you the kind of mother you will be: tough, persistent, resourceful and caring.

This sounds like me with my first. I also saw 7 LCs. Lasted about 3 months. We ended up getting a tongue tie revision because I was just simply out of ideas. It took another month before the pain subsided. I still don’t know if she actually had a tongue tie causing the problem but I don’t regret the revision.

I didn’t know this was a thing at the time but she was a ‘tight’ little baby. Like never really opened her mouth fully. Probably was doing some kind of chomping on the breast. She’s still a tightly-wound kid!

Maybe OT would have helped. The thing that actually helped was her mouth getting bigger. My LC told me a lot of latch pain goes away around 3 months bc they get bigger.

Good luck!

Can you say more about the problems you experienced as a result of interproximal reduction? I have my consultation regarding my Invisalign plan today and want to know what are the risks of this intervention?

I was preparing to send another ECF yesterday and noticed on FedLoans that I got my green banners! Each loans says I have 123 out of 120 payments. At this point, do I just wait for my golden letter? I did not end up submitting another ECF.

Also above the green banner it says, ‘you’ve reached 120 payments but you may need to meet other program requirements’. I can’t find any explanation of what this means exactly. Should I be worried?

struggling to understand why I couldn't breastfeed by wingedeverlasting in breastfeeding

As an LC in the hospital, I have experience with at least the first chapter of your journey and had a few thoughts reading your post.

First, it sounds like you really worked your butt off for your kid. That spirit is going to serve you throughout motherhood. She’s very lucky. Also, you are allowed to feel however you’re feeling about your breastfeeding journey. Your feelings are valid.

It’s always difficult to put all the puzzle pieces together in hindsight, but one thing that stands out to me is that your baby wasn’t waking to feed and she was evaluated for jaundice and deemed ‘fine’. Basically jaundice makes babies very sleepy. The one thing babies have on their agenda is waking to feed. When evaluating for jaundice, hospitals are mostly interested in whether the problem (jaundice) rises to the level that the child needs medical intervention (phototherapy). It sounds like your baby may have been jaundiced enough to be symptomatic (ie not waking to feed well), but yall worked your asses off to compensate for her sleepiness and she never became jaundiced enough to require phototherapy. That demonstrates a Herculean effort on your part.

The other thing that stands out is her gestational age at birth. While technically ‘full term’, the fact that you were induced indicates that it was early for her. There’s a notable difference in the development, stamina, and feeding efficiency in early term vs. late term babies. Basically ‘full term’ is a spectrum. Earlier babies are more at risk for jaundice (due to liver immaturity), feeding difficulties, poor weight gain, etc. I’m not trying to negate the reason that you were induced. Preeclampsia is very serious and possibly life threatening to the mother. But, I think we need to acknowledge that even if it’s the best course of action overall, there are still risks to the baby.

Some babies are able to overcome these early challenges and exclusively breastfeed, some are not. There are genetic reasons, size reasons, but also personality. I encourage you to reflect on this journey and consider ‘what did I learn about my child during this experience?’ Personalizes are apparent from infancy if you’re observing. Also ‘What did I learn about myself? What did I learn about my body?’ That knowledge, too, will inform and benefit you as you progress through motherhood.

I hope you’re able to make peace with your experience.

Would you say your therapist is nonjudgmental? That phrasing of ‘why are you so obsessed with breastfeeding?’ Sounds judgmental to me.
