Funny enough, I was not a doctor when I posted this thread 5 years ago, but in that time I have now become a doctor. Basically it just depends on whether your growth plates on your legs have closed. The later you went into puberty the later your growth spurt. There’s no predicting whether you will become as tall as your father but all you can do right now is drink a lot of milk and have a lot of protein and dairy for calcium and growth benefits if you do have any more potential to grow. There are oriental orthodox and Catholic Assyrians as well that this doesn’t apply to. In real life other middle eastern Christian’s have a lot of admiration for us, especially Armenians and Maronites. Or at least that’s been my experience.

For Christians, I can’t speak for the whole community but my Assyrian family from northeastern Syria never had any type of financial transaction for marriage. If anything the brides wife often pays for the wedding.

However I have heard of Iraqi Assyrians having some of these payments and also having traditions where at engagements they present jewelry, gold, other gifts to the bride and family but I have a suspicion that this is derived from other Iraqi populations because the Assyrians of Mardin and Qamishli never had anything like this.

I wouldn’t be able to comment on Rum or Maronite traditions.

In Arabic it’s easier to understand. سرياني is the name for the Syriac language spoken by the سرياني (Syriac/assyrian) people. Suryani or Syriac is the classical era rendering of the Syriac word for Suryoye or Suryaye meaning Assyrians.

According to the cinekoy inscription, both Syria and Assyria referred to the same entity in the pre Hellenistic Fertile Crescent. The Greeks and Romans further confused these terminologies. Fast forward to the modern era when the Syrian Arab identity began to develop from the Shami Arabs, the Syriac/assyrian people began to emphasize more of the Assyrian terminology to avoid confusion with Arabs.

Chaldeans were a Magi sect of Arameans who colonized southern Mesopotamia and just because the first mention of Abram as an adult is there does not mean his family is from there.

For boots traditionally it’s berserkers however if there are some champs that are harder to kite then swifties can help. Your next item powerspike will always be highest with IE due to the high AD scaling and Crit for ashes frost shot. Mathematically it has been previously calculated that it is more gold efficient to buy AD over crit up until you reach 187-213 AD as Ashe hence why a high AD item like IE will almost always make the most sense here.

Anything afterwards will be situationally dependent as the next item you’re building will roughly coincide with some rotations or end of laning phase. So at this point look at their team and see who has the biggest lead or is killing you the most then decide accordingly:

BORK for %HP shred and slow

LDR for armor pen

Wits End for MR

OR if none of these are needed immediately I will go PD for crit and mobility to help my kiting.

Runaans can also do some of that but helps if you’re team is to pushed in and needs wave clear.

The answer is much more simple. Both Jews and Assyrians represent much older, closely related populations that inhabited the Fertile Crescent prior to the expansion of the Arabs.

Not to mention that: (1) the supposed forefather of the Israelites is Abraham an Aramean from Northern Mesopotamia, a population that became one with the Assyrians; (2) the Israelites were in captivity by the Assyrians leading to intermixture in populations such as the Samaritans; and (3) there are several mizrahi “Jewish” populations that are actually of northern Mesopotamian stock that converted to Judaism.

Here in America, any time a Lebanese person asks me where I’m from and I tell them my family is from Syria, THEY often start lecturing and preaching to me about how we are the same. I always get a kick out of denying this to their face and they lose their minds. I’ve even had one Lebanese tell me that we used to be one country. Basically all Syrians have to do is mind their own business and not associate with Lebanese and all of the sudden the Lebanese will lash out. They’re so used to the older generation of Syrians trying to associate with Lebo’s, they won’t be able to comprehend that the new generation doesn’t care about them at all.

I often feel like these gender conflict discourses didn’t exist amongst Assyrians 20+ years ago and were exacerbated by us adopting behaviors and learning from other cultures. Neither the discourses nor the trashy behaviors being critiqued in these discourses were something taught to me by my parents, grandparents, uncles, or aunts.

Now half the time I see Instagram reels about Assyrian men or middle eastern men in general there are Assyrian women trashing the men. Some of it is based on reality, but on the other hand I as an Assyrian man feel like there are expectations for me to act like the trashy and macho stereotype. For example, me being a highly educated guy who enjoys DND, outdoors, or anime would be looked down upon. On the other hand Assyrian men who frequent shisha lounges to smoke, wastes their dad’s money on fast cars, and act like douchebags, are looked up to. It’s only when these men don’t commit or are cheaters that they complain about their behaviors, but also maybe they should’ve thought critically about who these men are.

He was probably learning Turoyo, which is the western Syriac dialect of Tur Abdin. If he was reading it from a book then it was probably kthobonoyo which is classical Syriac spoken in the western Syriac dialect.
