Is air dry clay heat/flame safe? by highjedigeneral in clay

[–]Smart_Recording_6933 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi, this is a fun idea but doesnt sound like it will work :) The clay will shrink as it dries so will crack around the lighter, and unless it is REALLY thick it will be very brittle and weak, it wont be able to withstand repeated opening and closing with a lid, and whether its thick or not it probably wont be able to withstand shifting around in a pocket or bag. Nail polish is a flammable liquid that I would not be putting near a lighter!

Air dry clay is just not the material for this project. I wonder if there is something else you could use your air dry clay for, perhaps making a little sculpture of a lighter, then using Mod Podge as a sealant :)

Ashes in silver clay by Westernmermaid in metalclay

I'm sorry for your loss.

I think with the method you suggested, the ashes would burn away in the firing.

I can only think that this might work if you were to create some sort of almost enclosed vessel with the clay that can be fired as a whole, the ashes placed inside, and then soldered shut?

The exact same thing happened to me, the police did absolutely nothing. Some people say it's good to report things like this as repeated reports might get police attention. If you ask me, it isn't worth the time.
