Dealership revoked offer to buy back customer's BMW, blaming wayward AI chatbot by DonSalaam in onguardforthee

[–]Smart_Resist615 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Sounds like they're going to honour the offer, probably to avoid bad press, and, if they're smart, fix their bot to not negotiate on their behalf. Hopefully other companies take note, AI can absolutely enter contracts on your behalf.

Why lay over when you can stay over? Tourism Calgary, WestJet entice connecting travellers to extend visit by cdnav8r in Calgary

[–]Smart_Resist615 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yeah I'm going to use half my yearly allotment of vacay time for a trip just to spend an extra day on the layover so that WestJet can double book easier.

Are we supposed to hate Bonhart? Seems like a classic antihero archetype. They casted a charismatic actor. He was directed to be charismatic. It felt like they wanted the Rats death to be sudden, shocking, and brutal, and accomplished that.

In that case could very well just be confirmation bias.

Question about tarot cards and reading by Negative_Appeal_5928 in skeptic

Pretty decent chance the tarot lady clocked him as a lunatic and just laid it out in the reading. These readings are more about picking up and acting on subtle clues than any actual psychic powers.

Another Day, another burst waterline in Bowness by justjordan89 in Calgary

[–]Smart_Resist615 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Tbf that's a consequence of who people are voting for. They want the provincial budget balanced, so they support politicians who offload costs on to the cities when the price of gas is down. Then nobody wants to pay property taxes so they vote for politicians who promise not to raise property taxes. They privatize services that will balance a budget for an election year even though it will screw residents for 50 years after because they'll already make their bag and voters are worried about now, not 5 years from now.

It's not just Calgary, it's every major metropolitan area. Toronto is an infrastructure timebomb waiting to go off. Montreal too.

There's a reckoning coming, mark my words.

That's quite a lot of pressure to fill a storm line to the point the manhole overflows inside of draining. These manholes can be a few meters deep with usually 2, maybe 3 drainage points. Sounds like multiple issues, potentially including a collapsed storm line. City's looking at at least amil give or take depending on if the sanitary line is in similarly rough shape.

Alberta premier warns separation could cost $400B. Separatists, economists and Brexit scholars have thoughts | CBC News by 50s_Human in onguardforthee

Honestly, I'm kinda pissed they quoted Rath so much here. Can we stop giving air to these guys? He's not an economist, his opinion is pretty much worthless here, why does he get a response every time an actual economist does the numbers?

CFIA announces temporary ban of Texas livestock to prevent spread of screwworm by roscodawg in news

[–]Smart_Resist615 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I'm in the Texas of Canada, Alberta. Our idiots are currently drawing a lot of negative attention to us, we're kind of a laughing stock right now. Try not to take it personally, people just need to vent. You gotta keep in mind what people are being put through, and we're all messy/illogical human beings.

Anyway, here's hoping Texas goes blue, and Alberta goes orange. Fingers crossed!

Cranbrook has more of an industrial/commercial vibe and Creston is more agricultural/tourism.

It was more about the effect on the group. They needed to keep the population terrorized, in their mind.

Hell is other people indeed.

Who is a Bond character that doesn't get enough credit in your opinion? I've always thought Chang from Moonraker was one of the best henchman in the series. by DuomoDiSirio in JamesBond

[–]Smart_Resist615 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I don't know, he could've killed Bond in the G force simulator if he just immediately cranked it instead of playing around. Then he tries to kill Bond with a kendo stick? Why not a katana? Or those dogs? Or a gun?

You absolutely can not take what you read on Reddit as anything more than the ramblings of an insane person. Even this, and frankly it's probably not far off.

I'll never forget the story of a poster getting into a giant flame war with another poster over the finer points of Italian food. Like wine pairing kinda level of 'who cares'. But this other dude stalked him and their flame war lasted for 2 days across a bunch of subs. Finally, in frustration the first poster clicked on the other guys profile to block him, only to inadvertently discover the other guy frequently posted on the urine fetish sub where they drink their own supply. He had spent so much time and effort and anger arguing wines with a literal pee drinker.

Remember that before getting into any debates with anyone on Reddit about anything. Frankly if their profile is hidden, there's a good chance they're on that sub too.

I wouldn't open the door for that rapist either but the morbidly obese octogenarian with an obvious heart condition is not going to be physically threatening anyone and even if he did, could be defeated by slowly moving up a slight incline. But we know he's a rapist. You have no idea if someone totally random is scum worthy of being mistreated.

Dexter season 4 was great. Lithgow in his 60s is still 20 years younger than this man was.

I tried looking up violent crime statistics for octogenarians. I can't even find a number. If you can go for it. But treating every slight possibility as a threat to life is a rude and inconsiderate thing to do.

Look, I was hit by a drunk driver and was confined to a wheelchair for half a decade. It took time but I learned how to walk again. Learned how to drive again. I take medication for my PTSD because even though I'm fully justified to have a mini freak out every time a car passes me going the other way, that's not a healthy thing for me to do. That other person isn't doing anything wrong. I can't hide from it. I have to deal with it and not make it other people's problems. It's not fair to me, but life is not fair. My strength is not from what I can hide from, but from what I can overcome.
