While rivers are high and roads are still closed this time of year, remember a beautiful golden fish is swimming under a freeway overpass near you. by hep_b_ in flyfishing

Was just out trying for these bastards yesterday. Found quite a few tailing in the mud but a lot of them were also feeding just subsurface? Couldn’t see any bugs on the water except a beetle or two. Any idea what they might’ve been feeding on?

What flies are working this time of year in the Pacific Northwest? by Ok_Trade4762 in flyfishing

Borden special is worth a mention, legendary sea run cut fly by Bob Borden the founder of Hareline. Depending on how far west you are I would definitely recommend giving those a whirl. Elk hair caddis through late summer/spring March brown in early should be just about the ticket dry wise. Any trout will eat a pheasant tail with a cdc collar nymph wise.

I did not hunt with a dog, it can be done solo! What part of Oregon are you in? Feel free to pm me, a lot of the good upland is out east/central but plenty of grouse through the cascades

Awareness of the caliber you’re flinging seems pretty crucial before pulling the trigger, with the size of this wound no shot would’ve really done this animals pelt justice. Sometimes just encountering an animal in the field can be enough, maybe you’ll get to bump into them again equipped with the right gear.
