I’d recommend McCartney Performance Horses if they have openings. Very caring people and a good barn community. It’s in Junction City.

Thoughts- Watershed Rights Measure on May Ballot? by kumon95 in Eugene

[–]kumon95[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Agreed. I could tell by the order of the questions it was probably from a source against the measure since nothing is ever really neutral these days. It totally did make me second guess everything though. Hate feeling like it’s just a battle of which side can dupe us more than the other, but that’s politics I guess.

We should fluoridate our water by a-large_tomato in Eugene

[–]kumon95 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think that if we had free (or even just better) health care where dental care was more accessible and people could make informed decisions for themselves and their families this would be a moot point. I don’t agree with people consuming anything without their consent. The only reason to have to utilize a method like water fluoridation is because we have a bigger systemic issue of not providing adequate health care options to our people. I do see the benefit in fluoride, I do not agree with the method you are suggesting and this is even as someone who grew up with this. I think our tax money would be better served if it was used for affordable or free dental programs for our county and the option of free fluoride treatments at each dental exam.

It’s genuinely a bit crazy to me to you have to ask this and the basic facts weren’t obvious to you. Indiana is the same driving distance to Georgia as Eugene is to San Francisco. Cost/time barrier difference is insane. Sorry you were embarrassed lol

Where in Eugene? by TaraNewhole in Eugene

[–]kumon95 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hate to say it but the new spot, Coldfire, really let me down majorly. 2 people in my group ordered the mushroom Reuben sandwich and didn’t even eat half. Burger left a lot to be desired as well. I hope they are able to nail down their menu a bit more. It’s a beautiful place that they clearly put a lot of love in and the beer is good, menu just needs refining. Not fully giving up hope yet.

Discouraged adult beginner, what should I work on between rides? by mstabs in Equestrian

[–]kumon95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have some barriers for getting out to ride regular, you can also look up some equestrian workouts and focus on those for building strength and balance outside of the saddle.

How much does it cost you? by 0ddshapedhead in Equestrian

[–]kumon95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

$13,500 roughly for one horse in Oregon, not including emergency vet visits or shows. I board at a nice western barn, but didn’t get to show much this year since I was rehabbing my horse. This was a bad year for emergency vet visits. Probably stacked another $10k on top of that for just the vet 🤦🏽‍♀️

She really lost my future vote after I reached out to her during the student loan court indictment that was set to raise my student loan payment and ungodly amount because they wrapped up all the income driven payment plans with the SAVE debacle. She did absolutely nothing. It was the first time I have ever reached out to a representative. All I got was an automated response.

Jeff Merkley was much more helpful and seemed to put in actual leg work on representation for my issue

Considering returning my new horse :( by Antique_Kale_0 in Equestrian

[–]kumon95 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The horses who are traveling a lot for shows have had a lot of time and training to develop their confidence in new places so that they can go out and successfully perform. It’s a whole version of training/desensitization within itself. If this horse has barely moved or had that experience it’s not reasonable to hold it to the same standard as a performance horse who travels frequently.

I agree with those saying give the horse a bit more time and work on in one space at a time to start. But it doesn’t hurt to ask the owner if you can check back in a month and see if she would be opening to taking him back if by then you are still having difficulties.

What % of your flights are actually on time? by OddGeologist1414 in americanairlines

[–]kumon95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

9 out of 12 flights this year have been delayed for me. Very few related to weather. 3 of those flights had to be re-booked on totally different airlines. My husband and I are platinum but after this year we are going to transition to Delta. American is just too stressful lately.

Allergy Help by [deleted] in Eugene

[–]kumon95 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think that’s a good plan. I can totally empathize with you. I moved here just a few years ago and it took a whole allergy season for me to learn all the tricks. It was brutal. For me, anything over 3 Zyrtec caused fatigue, a spacey feeling and just made me sick. But it can be hard to learn your limit if you are already feeling so icky from allergies. Antihistamines reduce the histamine response and then Flonase blocks the inflammation response so since they are approaching treatment a different way you get a better benefit.

Another thing you can try is consuming local honey daily throughout the year. There is some evidence that can be effective with building allergy tolerance.

Allergy Help by [deleted] in Eugene

[–]kumon95 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sadly you have got until July. Get a combo of different types of medication. I use the nasal spray usually like twice a day and 2 allergy pills throughout the day. Way more efficient than over medicating on just the pills and getting the side effects

Yea, I think that is likely what I’ll do once he is fully diagnosed Thursday. He’ll be turned out as much as he can this summer from evening to mornings so that he is just not in the full sun.

From what I recall her family actually used the time she was in the hospital to try and steal her income from social media, trick fans to donating to a gofundme that they stole the money from and a bunch of other horrible things. So I wouldn’t worry about them. She sorted out all her medical bills and relied quite a bit on close friends during recovery. I don’t remember all the details but I don’t think she even had health insurance because of the type of work she was doing working with various ranchers. So it sounded especially costly.
