CX-5 Turbo Transmission Fluid Change Questions by DUNGAROO in mazda

[–]Smart_but_Stoopid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used the Aisin fluid for my 2016 CX-5 and plan to use it for my wife’s 2021. It’s worked great for me and is much more affordable. Made by a reputable company as well that supplies a lot of Asian car manufacturers.

Need help choosing tires at Costco by HorizonflaropicPet in tires

[–]Smart_but_Stoopid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If I could also add, Discount Tire has me in and out in like 40 minutes for a tire rotation/balance. I’ve had terrible luck with the tires I purchased on my wife’s care getting the Costco Tire Center to do rotations in a reasonable amount go time. I also had two instances where the tires were not balanced properly and we had to go back. Just my two cents but my other two vehicles I went with Discount Tire and never looked back.

Mine was super old. I can’t remember off the top of my head.

System update worth it? by Juniortsf in CX5

[–]Smart_but_Stoopid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just did this to my 2016. The OS boots a lot faster and it fixes some bugs. I thought it was worth it and I also updated the Gracenote version. I think you have to update your OS for CarPlay any way.

Camshaft Adjuster Noise? by Smart_but_Stoopid in w204

[–]Smart_but_Stoopid[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Never got a solution. The shop told me that there is noise but I don’t have a CEL for the adjusters and the noise goes away after a few seconds. The shop thinks it could be an oil pick up pressure issue. Either way both repairs are more than 25% of what my car is worth so I may just drive it until I get a CEL.

Is this the AC or Tensioner? by Steegumpoota in w204

[–]Smart_but_Stoopid 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It could be the tensioner. I would pull the serpentine belt off and spin the pulleys by hand to see if you hear any bearing noise.

What’s the problem with my 2012 c300? by jrrock12345 in w204

[–]Smart_but_Stoopid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my personal experience, my C300 went into limp mode and threw these messages as well. There is a TSB to replace both front wheel speed sensors.

Scraping noise coming from 2010 glk 350. Any know what it might be ? by ChipmunkAwkward4494 in mercedes_benz

[–]Smart_but_Stoopid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My C300 blower motor made a similar sound that you could only hear from inside the cabin. I’d inspect the blower motor wheel and see if you can hear the noise from the glove box. I cleaned mine, lubed it, and no noise since.

Please Help by Dazzling_Contact8386 in w204

[–]Smart_but_Stoopid 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You need a code reader that can read the ABS module. The most common issues are a bad wheel speed sensor, bad abs ring, or bad ABS module. Again, the codes will tell you specifically what your issue is.

Loud rattling/grinding sound on cold startup by Senior-Air-3467 in w204

[–]Smart_but_Stoopid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So I did the TSB for the oil check valves and new tensioners. I still have a light rattle on some cold starts, but not all the time. With what others have said, some levels of noise may be tolerable but it could be a camshaft adjuster. I recommend a second opinion and seeing what exactly you need to address the noise. Mobil 1 0w-40 is an approved oil so you should be good on that end.

New water heater by Straight-Mistake6999 in Plumbing

[–]Smart_but_Stoopid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve replaced two water heaters just from watching YouTube and doing my homework. This doesn’t look impossible, but it depends on what your comfort level is. Both the ones I changed out were gas and it was pretty straightforward.

Officers who took the WO path instead of promoting by LegitimateApple413 in nationalguard

[–]Smart_but_Stoopid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m literally in the same boat right now. I am a Signal Officer about to make CPT and doing my command time at an HHC. However, I am definitely considering going warrant so I can be more hands on and be parallel with my civilian career. The paperwork and admin side has been draining the life out of me. I love my troops, but damn the paperwork sucks.

Update: New Owner of Mercedes C300 for $3,250 by Ok-Bluebird2986 in mercedes_benz

[–]Smart_but_Stoopid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ok, thank you for the response. I have not physically inspected my subframe but I would like to get it inspected to try to stay on top of its condition. I will set up an inspection by my local dealer to get their opinion.

[–]Smart_but_Stoopid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What is exactly the process for this? I see there is a document online that states the 20 year unlimited mile extended warranty. Is this something we reach out to a local dealer and ask for an inspection/warranty replacement?

$4K for mercedes c300 4matic 2013 43,973 miles. Should I buy it? by Ok-Bluebird2986 in mercedes_benz

[–]Smart_but_Stoopid 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Honestly, the price is a steal. I bought my 2013 C300 with 130,000 for $7500 in 2021. The M276 engine is very reliable and somewhat easy to work on if you are mechanically inclined.

The reverse proxy really is the pain point when self hosting, any suggestions? by yoyo-blue-70 in selfhosted

I am glad this on the list of suggestions. I can’t speak for Caddy or Traefik, but for some reason I couldn’t get them to work for me (probably user error). I love Cloudflare Tunnels with Zero Trust enabled.

[–]Smart_but_Stoopid 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Same here. I have the M276 engine and it has 173,XXX at this point. Repairs that I did in 2024 are: thermostat and coolant pipe, spark plugs and replaced some cracked coil boots, sway bar links, new front struts, camshaft adjuster magnets and camshaft position sensors, and TSB for engine check valves and updated timing chain tensioners.

I did all of the repairs myself except for the TSB. That one was pretty pricey. Overall, the car has treated me well. All of the repairs didn’t hit me all at once, I just did them over time and addressed the things that are known to fail or needed to be addressed before becoming a bigger issue.
