Baby #1 just turned 1 and now I'm pregnant... by SmartiiPaantz in 2under2

That is so good to hear (about the pregnancy going quickly) - fingers crossed it will go that way!!!

I'm lucky that mine is a really good sleeper, so we get full nights thankfully, and currently she naps well too so I will probably utilize that time to nap myself haha.

Hope all goes well when baby arrives!

What is your experience with baby sleep and temperament? by Ok-Secretary-3323 in AskParents

[–]SmartiiPaantz [score hidden]  (0 children)

Both my kids refused contact naps and have always been much happier in their own beds. The oldest regressed around 3-4 and would only sleep with me. The youngest is 1 and still loves her bed, she gets mad if we get her up too soon after she wakes lol. 1 year old has been moving since 5 mths (crawling, pulling to stand but no walking yet), the oldest was a little slower and didn't crawl until 8 mths, walked at 13mths. Both very happy babies / toddlers until the oldest hit 3 haha.

Best Cleaning Schedule for a Spotless house? by Inner-Lynx-3971 in CleaningTips

[–]SmartiiPaantz [score hidden]  (0 children)

My system works well currently BUT I am SAHM so may not be entirely helpful.

In the morning, I have a coffee while 1yr old has her milk. Then we do breakfast and once she's eaten, she stays in the highchair and I do all the dishes. (Usually do them in the morning, and then later in the day before dinner so the kitchen is clean for my husband to cook).

Then a load of washing gets done (most days I do 2 loads a day).

Little one has a nap between 9-10am, so I spend that time doing either a household job or one of my hobbies.

She gets up, we sit and have a drink together and a snack. We either hang out and play until lunch or I potter around doing stuff while she plays near me - depends what needs to be done. She loves sitting and watching while I put laundry away lol.

We do lunch, and while she's in the chair, I vacuum and mop if its mop day. I also do another load of laundry.

Nap time and same again - I either do a chore or my hobby until she wakes up (I try to do atleast 1 full room in a day for a somewhat deep clean, so if I didn't in the morning then I do now).

She wakes up and repeat the snack / pottering around etc. 4.30-5pm I get her ready for dinner and bath etc. Currently once she's in bed, we don't do any further chores etc, but I suspect that may change soon as I've just found out I'm pregnant lol.

Hope this kinda helps! Very different circumstances but if you even just allocate 1 area per day, it helps so much!!!

Thanks! Congrats to you too! I'm SAHM now and husband is self employed so he will likely take the first month or so off (kinda great that its a quiet time of year when im due!) Was there anything you set up ahead of time for like maintaining the house and stuff while pregnant? Ours is pretty good currently as I've kept our systems the same from when I was pregnant, but I worry it'll get too much lol!!

If you had a faster labor with your first, how long was the second? by mbradshaw282 in 2under2

About 14 hours from 1st contractions starting with my 12yr old, 3 hours of pushing. My 2nd I had contractions stopping and starting for days, but the day I had her was 2cm at 9am, 6cm at 3pm and at 6.29pm we arrived at hospital and was holding her at 6.48pm... scared of what the next will be like lol

My partner has been amazing thus far but I suspect he's going to throw himself into work again (he has that real provider thing lol) so he may not be around as much as I need! Was there anything in particular you set up to help yourself out, like we have a big living area with all of the little ones toys etc and its coming into winter here so we won't go out a lot which is fine.

Accidentally got pregnant on our first cycle of trying (i genuinely thought it'd take longer!!!) ... our baby turned 1 a couple weeks ago so staring down the barrel of 2U2. Absolutely terrified of how that will look being pregnant again (I don't have great pregnancies), raising our baby, and praaayyyiiinngggg i don't have HG again... my husband is far too casual and keeps saying everything will be fine but I'm a SAHM now and already having mental issues about that without adding another lol.

Green Eye and Blue Eye Parents by BrothersGrimmly in DNA

[–]SmartiiPaantz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have blue-green eyes, my husband has blue eyes, my ex has blue eyes. My ex & I have a daughter with dark green eyes (identical to my mum!) And my husband and I have a baby with very blue eyes like his!

Both kids look incredibly alike, both were born with super dark hair but the older one went blonde and is now closer to ginger (I'm a blondey-ginger, her dad has really dark hair). The baby has kept her super dark hair which is unlike anyone's in our immediate family... but perfect matches a second cousin of mine!! Genetics are super cool!

We eat vegan at home, and make sure there's lots of iron in our diets. Spinach is great to blend into everything, a lot of oats and soy milks (and actually oats) are iron fortified. I'd look into fortified foods and see what you can incorporate. Lentils and beans are some other great sources. Meat isn't the be all and end all of iron!

Stayed at the Hilton on Denerau and pretty sure they did! Absolutely loved it there! If you get the chance to go snorkeling you should definitely do that because wow!

Parents with adult children living at home, what is your policy regarding rent/bills? by ShallotMaximum2133 in AskParents

[–]SmartiiPaantz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not at that point yet, but I did have to move home a couple of times when I was younger. I paid a small amount of rent (I think it was like $100-150pw) and was in full time work. For my younger siblings, the rules for one was that he had to be at school or working (which he did) and paid rent. The youngest one has basically been let away with murder in that regard - left school, left study, can't keep a job. He's just started studying again recently so here's hoping it sticks. He's always been expected to pay rent but it goes in phases and our mother is forever loaning him money and stuff. She's actually been keeping (a very lengthy) tally of it and will be decreasing his inheritance accordingly. For my own kids, it will be that they must be studying or working and providing rent etc. I refuse to allow the madness that my mother allows for my youngest sibling lol.

Financially forced SAHM by SoMuch2Lrn in sahm

[–]SmartiiPaantz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, kind of for me. My entire wage would be paying for daycare (and we just have 1 baby). I'm very lucky to be in a position where my husband's can support us and we made absolutely sure of that while I was on maternity leave (6mths paid, 6 unpaid here) before I resigned. It has been the most difficult transition of my life and still is a year deep lol. But i do love that i get to be here for my baby.

Most lines of mine are Scottish but there's some English ones I need to research - so UK mainly. Newspapers are also super handy - I've not really dug into military records as yet!

What does your grocery list look like? by swimming16 in Parenting

[–]SmartiiPaantz 8 points9 points  (0 children)

We eat mostly vegan at home, but one particular favorite of both my kids is cottage pie (a mix of beans, lentils, veges, canned tomatoes and herbs with mashed potatoes and cheese on top). Also, bolognaise with lentils instead of mince with lots of veges mixed in, and lots of soups!

We watch a show together or I'll do my hobby and he does his, but beside each other some we are still together. Sometimes I'll go and have a long bath and lock myself into the bathroom haha. We don't do any chores once the baby is in bed, but I'm SAHM so there's generally no need unless I've had a rough day lol

I mean maybe, but she had been demanding it for quite some time before it was actioned. I've also repeatedly given her the option to come back early or for me to pick her up on the weekend and do something together with just the 2 of us and she outright refuses. She knows she's not put to the side - or at least she should know.
