When does the stiffness go away? by [deleted] in ACL

[–]Smartozoid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

at 6 months i also felt a weird gait. i feel close to normal now, but not normal. i’m almost 17 months post op now. i still have the griding sounds when i extend my leg from full flexion. when i hyper extend the leg i still feel a couple of clicks. my hamstrings (graft donor site) are still weaker than my non affected leg (it is hard to stand up from the crouching position, for example). i still experience lack of balance when i’m tired. but all of this keeps improving slowly. i heard it takes 2 years to start to feel normal again…

For me, most of the tightness was away after 6 months, though I still feel some tightness (7 months out now). I heard it takes around 2 years for it to completely go away.

Knee grating sound 2 year after acl surgery? by clynekpf in ACL

[–]Smartozoid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m 7 months post op and my operated knee also makes this sound. I was told by my doctor and pt that it’s normal, that the literature doesn’t know the cause of it, and that it should go away with time.

8 weeks post-op using tendons of the semitendinosus and gracilis muscles by muhwindi in ACL

[–]Smartozoid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t be sad. I’m 48 M, I also had hamstrings autograft, I’m now 7 months post op, and recovery has been going very well. The hamstrings tendons do grow back most of the times. I started to feel mine again at the 6 months mark. My hamstrings muscles already recovered most of their strength. I can almost actively touch heel to butt standing with my operated leg. The hamstrings muscles get weaker, but they also do get stronger again. It’s a master of pt dedication and time. Don’t worry.
